Every person you encounter from the security guards, to the woman who takes your info and gives you your wristband, to the registration tech, to the nurse….are all the most miserable bunch I’ve ever met. Never in my life have I felt uncomfortable in a hospital until today. They put a guy next to me in the hall who was COVID POSITIVE , and watched the guy put his mask IN HIS POCKET, and didn’t bat an eye. I ended up just comepltley leaving and I will refuse any bill that comes to my house because in the 4 hours I sat in the hallway I wasn’t seen. You could tell the security guys didn’t give a single F about what’s going on in there. Go somewhere else if you can.
The lack of urgency, empathy, and communication with the staff is horrendous. Waiting for 3+ hours in an EMERGENCY ROOM is seriously ridiculous. I literally witnessed someone getting their finger cut off by a doctor/nurse in the hallway. No curtain, no private room, no discretion, absolutely awful. I felt as if I was in a never ending horror film... I wish I remembered the name of the surgeons that tended to my uncle. They did a remarkable job for the 100+ stitches put in.
Unlike some of the not-so-flattering reviews of this hospital, I have a lot of respect and thanks for the employees (everyone from doctors to nurses to physical therapy to ER to clerical personnel). This is especially true when I consider the location of this hospital, the local population and the general need for this hospital to serve a LOT of underserved and under-insured patients. My 91 year old friend (the patient - a white man with a PhD from the south) received excellent care from the attending doctors and specialists. The various nursing and orderly staff were overly kind to someone who clearly was not your average patient in this environment. I am appreciative they did what they could to get him travel-worthy to go back "home" where he could receive specialized care. Kudos - job well done Rutgers Univ. Hospital of Newark! (April 2024)
The absolute worst hospital I’ve ever been to in my life. Came here for an accident my boyfriend was in and the lack of care was unbelievable for a hospital! From the security, which doesn’t let you get a word in before going on an ego trip, to the nurses, I was disgusted. Mind you, they allow homeless people to stay in the waiting room all night, crowding it, not allowing any one who needs actual assistance a place to sit because the security is friends with these regulars. If they showed my boyfriend, who happens to be a police officer in Newark and was involved in this accident in UNIFORM - if they couldn’t even treat him with respect, how do you think they’ll treat you or a loved one? Take the extra drive and go elsewhere, you deserve better care and attention.
09/01/2024 My wife and daughter and I were there at 5pm in the Mammography service department. The attendant who was there was stupid and rude. She served us very rudely; stressed and rude.
My wife had an appointment with the Doctor for a mammogram at 5pm and we received very bad treatment and heard unpleasant words. People like that shouldn't work in places that have to deal with human beings; Let alone in a hospital where others are going in need of help.
Please think about some workers because this hospital is very well spoken about their work and I believe there are many professionals who are excellent and don't know what's going on. Thanks.
I was brought to this hospital after a workplace accident and treated like a "criminal" after I sustained injuries from getting struck by an SUV. The doctor in charge told me I was fine & should be back to work in 3-4 days. An MRI later that week revealed a non-displaced fracture of my femur. I would rather die than ever go to this establishment again. Just AWFUL

I hope this letter reaches you in good health and spirits. My name is Candida Burgos. I was a new patient of Dr. Gillick. I was referred to him by Dr. Colin Harris due to the severe neck pain I have been experiencing for over 2 years.
My first appointment with Dr. Gillick was scheduled for 2/7/2024. Upon my arrival I was both shocked and disappointed to learn that I would not be seeing the referred doctor but a student named Dr. Steve Gad. Dr. Gad was not at all welcoming or friendly. He did not listen to my concerns openly and dismissed my symptoms. This made me feel very uneasy and I could not express my thoughts comfortably.
The kind of neck pain I experience is intense and affects many of my daily essential activities including eating, sleeping and traveling to and from doctors appointments. Other doctors have even informed me that I will undoubtedly need surgery to correct the damage. However, when I explained all of this to Dr. Gad, I felt as though my symptoms were not being evaluated seriously. As a patient, I felt no care from his end.
I take my health very seriously. I go to the gym and eat a well balanced diet. The pain I experience is hindering my ability to do the things that keep me healthy. I wanted the doctor to know just how difficult it is for me every single day. This is why I took the liberty of bringing 3 CDs of my MRI that show my upper, middle and lower back. Dr. Gad took the CDs with him, stating he would review them. Yet he returned only about 5 minutes later concluding that the damage was not severe enough for surgery. I also brought in records of all the procedures done, ie: nerve blocking, injections and the different medications I’ve had to take.
I still have not seen the referred Dr. Gillick. However, I am relieved and thankful that I was able to find another doctor in time to prevent my symptoms from worsening.
Be well,
Candida Burgos

My brother is currently there due to a work related accident. I flew in from out of town and was utterly disgusted at how FILTHY his room was.
He asked for the nurse to change his bed sheets by 10:30 am and ANOTHER NURSE finally did it, after being asked AGAIN at 3pm!
ALOT of the staff are extremely rude!! Almost every nurse that I had encountered while there for 3 days was very rude!
These people that come in there for care are NOT animals and it’s disgusting that hospital staff treat them as such. Ya got the place locked up like Fort Knox and ALMOST everyone’s bed side manner is disappointing-AT BEST!
