Rene did an amazing job on mine and my two best best friends tattoos that correlated together. We brought in our ideas and he brought them to life better than we could have expected. I had friends traveling in from halfway across the country and he was more than accomodating to make sure we were able to get them all done in the short amount of time she was here. I can’t thank you enough for our tattoos! 10/10 reccomend. Can’t wait to get more tattoos!
My two best friends and I got tattoos by Rene and he did an amazing job! He drew up his own idea of the tattoos based off of a TikTok we showed him. The whole shop was a vibe, and we were so happy how accommodating to us they were. Can’t wait to go back!
We had a wonderful and fun experience during our first visit to the shop today. Husband and 2 of my friends decided to give the Gumball machine a try and it did not disappoint.
The tattos we got are amazing, we loved the staff and atmosphere. Rene did an outstanding job on our Tattos. We definitely will be back and not just for the Gumball Machine :)
I went in for 'walk in Friday' I wasn't sure what I was getting into. I made other plans in case the line was long or whatnot.
Chris was mega respectful. There was a gentleman who wanted a super small tattoo and asked if I minded. I sincerely didn't and it made sense that the small tattoo for before my frazzled many possible options depending on what he had time for.
He was super kind. Personable. We placed the tattoo 3xs before I realized I'd prefer it flipped. He didn't make me feel bad. He was so accommodating.
He had a light hand and even offered up numbing cream.
He did more and better than what I asked. Hes a really kind dude. Down to earth. I felt like I had great customer service and he was constantly asking my permission if the vision matched and it exceeded my expectations. Thanks Chris. I'll be back!
Crispy has done three large pieces for me. Each time I have gave him minimal to go off of as far as artwork, but he always manages to draw up exactly what I have pictured in my mind, even if I can't express to him exactly what it is I'm thinking. He's a super cool, laid back guy who's very down to earth. Definitely has earned himself a loyal client.
Underground Ink MHK is a great place to get a tattoo. Chris and Rene are real professionals and are very talented tattoo artists! They go the extra mile to make their customers feel welcome, are comfortable and are very happy with their designs and work. I had a great overall experience and am very happy with my new geometric wolf tattoo that Renee designed and inked on me. Great line and shade work. Renee, you are a great guy and a top notch tattoo artist. I can’t speak highly enough about you or your work. Thank you. I will be sure to see you again for another tattoo when I return to Manhatten in a couple of years. Cheers, Jimbo from Oz
Update: seems that explaining my experience is being completely ignored by the owner's response. The focus isn't the fact that I waited for 5 hours to receive a response, it is how I was treated when I walked in the shop. It is how I was talked down because I asked how much the work would cost over messenger. He treated me like I had no right to ask such questions. I have several tattoos and I was able to get estimates doing the same method as I tried to do here, online. It was really clear that he didn't want my business as soon as I walked in the door. The moment I said that I'm the person who sent a message about this specific tattoo his attitude had changed. He starts ranting about our little message conversation that literally had minimal responses from him and was pretentious with how he talked to me. I honestly thought that the questions were valid and maybe we misunderstood eachother so when I arrived at the shop that the vibe would change. As far as ratings go, these ratings also include service.
After reading about the amazing reviews, I was excited to get my next tattoo. I went to the Facebook page and read through the information and said if you have any questions, send a message. So, naturally, that is what I do. I sent pictures of my current tattoo and what I was looking to do. I got an automatic response that someone will contact me or stop by. Almost 5 hours goes by and no response but my meesge was read. So, I sent a message asking if I had to come in to get a quote. They responded with yes. Why wait 5 hours to tell someone that you need to go in to get an estimate? I was confused because nowhere states that I have to go in for a quote. So I go during my lunch break. Walk in and the guy comes around the corner and asked what he can do for me. I told him that I sent a message yesterday and was told to come in. What happens next blows my mind. He rants about my message and said, " I wasn't sure if you were trying to be rude but because it isn't in my automatic response doesn't mean that it needs to be. I don't know any shop who gives quotes over the internet. Every body is different and sizes are different so we have to see it in person." He says this to me in a condescending way that was like how dare you ask. He was actually really rude towards me. He said he got my photos and then gave me an estimate without even examining my arm. He didn't ask how big or small. He shoots out a number. I asked well is that for the piece or hour. He said it is for 2 hours and that half needs to be paid upfront to book. Then he goes off about how he has been doing this for 20 years and wants to be compensated for experience. He literally could have done this without me coming in since he didn't ask any questions or even looked at the space to work with. Probably because of the photos I sent he was able to figure out the time and cost, but of course I had to come in just for him to be rude. I left upset. Here is why. The communication and hospitality was the worst I've ever experienced. Yes, I can understand needing to see in person to get an accurate estimate, not denying that. This isn't my 1st tattoo and other shops have that capability so belittling me because I've been able to do that elswhere is uncalled for. Now, if you saw the message and don't even bother responding for almost 5 hours to inform me what your policy is, is also rude. I'm shopping around for something that means so much to me and to be treated like that has completely turned me off to recommending them. The other thing that had me confused is that he said his hourly rate is X but in their own page it states that they do NOT charge hourly rates. Completely unprofessional. I've worked in customer service for 15 years and never ever have I treated a prospective client that way. Especially when they don't know the ins and outs of that product. Don't belittle people educate them in a friendly manner. I rely on your expertise to make a decision. Does he do good work, I suppose, is he someone that I would do business with? Absolutely not.
Wouldn't give this place a star if that was an option. I was visiting friends in MHK and we decided to go to underground ink because they had a POSTED SIGN IN THE WINDOW stating that they did walk-ins. So we went in to see if they had any time to do a couple simple tattoos for us. As soon as we walked through the door there was not a single person in the shop except Chris (?). We asked if he had time since we saw he had MULTIPLE open appointment slots on his website. He came at us aggressively saying that they don't do walk-ins because they don't want people like us to ruin their reputation. He went on and on despite the obviously confused and offended looks on our faces. We went upstairs to a DIFFERENT tattoo shop and had a completely wonderful experience; I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the tattoo shop UPSTAIRS AND A COUPLE SHOPS OVER. They also have some great stories from customers who have had similar experiences at underground ink. Long story short, don't go here. There's a reason Chris was in there by himself.
