We went Good Friday evening at around 7pm and there was a massive queue. As we were hungry and didn’t want to wait too long, we sadly left.
However, we went back on Easter Sunday around the same time and waited no longer than 5 minutes. The service from the owners was amazing. So friendly and nice. They cooked our fish and chips fresh. It was piping hot for us to take back to our Airbnb.
How was the fish and chips? Well, just look at the photos. The fish was covered in even, crunchy and delicious batter. Inside the fish was cooked to perfection. The perfect balance of soft and firm. Not too oily. Pure fishy goodness. The chips were lightly crispy on the outside and pure fluffy potato deliciousness inside. Just like the fish, cooked to perfection. Portion was generous too.
If you’re around the Ullswater area, you NEED to grab your fish and chips from here. Highly recommended. Might come back to Lake District area again soon just to eat from here!
Discovering this takeaway by chance was a stroke of luck when we were at Pooley Bridge. You will have to wait until 5 p.m. for opening, but it is well worth it. The owners' warm demeanor set the tone for a pleasant experience. Their cod bites are a must-try, and the quality of the chips is top-notch. For those venturing from afar, enjoying your meal promptly is advised, as the freshness is unbeatable. Keep in mind, it's strictly a takeaway joint with no indoor seating. Despite this, the food speaks for itself, evident from the queues forming within minutes of opening. We look forward to returning when next in the area.
I have been to many fish and chip places in my life, and quite honestly this has to be the best one I've ever been to! And that's saying something!
Staff was so friendly, I was surprised I was served ten minutes before closing.. really good service!

Waited 40 minutes for no obvious reason as wasn’t particularly busy. Seemed to be fully staffed and yet got our order wrong - a two person order 2 x chips and battered sausage .. and cost £18. Chips were hard and seemed partly cooked. Underwhelming on many fronts.
Before trying ullswater chippy, Anstruther fish and chips was the best I'd ever had.
Ullswater chippy is right up there and I'm in two minds to say it was better than my favourite place in the UK but price wise and fresh quality of fish and twice cooked crispy but fluffy chips I'm going to have to say its up there if not even better than Anstruther that is very costly but also nice.
If your in the area please don't miss this wee gem of a chip shop located just off the main road that runs past ullswater.
You will definitely not regret it very friendly staff happy to give tourist directions and what can I say now up there with the best fish and chips I've ever had.
We are visiting Penrith for the first time and was looking for a fish and chips shop. Found the shop from the road sign, thought it was very helpful while driving around new place. The staff members were very nice and so friendly. I only purchased two small portions of chips but the chips tasted really fresh. I would definitely visit them again in the near future. ????????????
