Walked in to get my 13 year old's hair cut and was seated right away. The barber was very friendly and the hair cut came out great. The only reason I dinged a star is because the place could use some refreshing. I would definitely go back again.
Gone here several times for my haircut, and now my young kid's. Had 3 different barbers all do a fantastic job. Very thorough, attention to detail, and a nice throw-back interior setup. Definitely recommend. Reasonably priced, great quality.
I used to really enjoy Town and country Barber shop. It was my go-to place for haircuts. A couple of years back, I grew my hair out long again and I didn't really go to Town & country as much as I used to. I've made some changes in my life and I felt short hair might be better fitted for those changes.
So Town and country were the ones that cut off my long locks and I've been there twice since that cutting. Both times, it was unclear as to who was cutting hair and as to who was a customer. It appeared there was some waiting involved for two or maybe three "in demand cutters."
In years past, upon entry the owner would greet you and inquire as to what services you needed. He would direct you to one of the cutters or even take care of you himself. It was quite an efficient experience.
I've just returned home from trying to get my haircut this afternoon at Town & country. No one greeted me, no one asked me as to what I needed, and to tell you the truth, no one even said hello or barely made eye contact with me.
I think they only had two cutters. One of their standard cutters was there but it looked like he was only working with one customer. Perhaps it was his day off, and maybe he was helping out a friend or a buddy with a favor. There were about six people waiting for two people to cut their hair.
I'm guessing it takes about 20 minutes to get a pretty good haircut. Using that as a gauge, I would have been waiting about an hour on a Friday afternoon for a hairdo. I seem to feel that's just too long to wait, especially when you have no preference as to who will cut your hair. I just needed to get a quick cut and then get back home to my family.
I'm going to try to go back later tonight as I really do like their services. I might also try tomorrow morning. I hope this is just "one of those things" and not an indicator of how things are going for this shop.
I will update my rating based on my future experience. I do hope things work out because it would be quite a shame for this great local standard to in fact, drop their standards.
Stay tuned...
I went back on Columbus Day and was pleasantly pleased. They were able to get me in with minimal wait and the cut was absolutely fantastic... One of the best ones I've ever had. I have updated my rating based on the haircut and the experience. I'm hoping that my previous experience was just an outlier.
I will continue going to Town & country as it has been my go-to for so many years.
Great traditional barber shops never got a bad haircut there great people got my first haircut there and I am now 50
I've heard many great things about the barber shop. I recommend it.
Lee is very conscientious and thorough! She cut my Dad's hair and did the extras, like the hair on his ears without being asked. The price is right and the service is superb!
When you find a good place, you should stick with it. This is the only place I have had my hair cut in the last 20 or so years, and I will continue to use them as long as I can
Hartman (the owner) is a great barber, and everyone on the staff is good. It is not a fancy salon, but rather is a place to get a great haircut at a very fair price
Five stars only because that is the maximum allowed
Town and Country Barber Shop is a classy "old-school" Barber Shop located in Bowie, MD. The overall look and feel of the place is fine, but more importantly they did a pretty good job cutting my hair. They also used a hot lather to shave the back of my neck, which is a nice touch. At $15 for a haircut, it wasn't unreasonable, but there was very little in the way of friendly service or conversation. When I asked if they had discounts for military or police I got a blank/confused stare, as though I had asked them if they included potato soup with their haircuts. Overall my experience was good, but unremarkable.
