Great ramen. Small space a little beat up. Service is efficient but not friendly. The fabulous food and reasonable cost results in five stars.
I ordered their Tan Tan ramen and it was so good, especially for those who like it spicy. The broth was so flavorful. If you want to try something new aside from the usual Chasu Ramen, I highly recommend this.
The service was fast and great. I wish I lived nearby, I would definitely go here at least once a week if I could.
Great place for absolute fire ???? ramen! It's a little hole in the wall slightly across from the Curran theater. You better get there on their downtime as they get pretty busy, and they tend to have a pretty long wait time as they make most of their menu items on the fly. I tried their takoyaki and kaarage for apps, and they're pretty fire ???? as well! Lastly, I ordered their chasiu ramen with mild spicy tonkotsu broth. It's perfect for a cold day at the city. But since the city is pretty cold and windy on average, then this stuff is perfect every day! Can't wait to come back and try their other menu options. Highly recommended ????
Small and cozy with ok food. Not the best in the city but good for a option if your in the area. They seemed to be understaffed in comparison to usual service times of the same menu items.
Started off with the pork gyoza for an appetizer and they were pretty hefty but just ok.
For main I chose the tonkatsu and it was good but nothing stood out over others.
The chicken karate ramen was pretty good, I would order that when I visit again.
This is the best chicken katsu we have ever had in our life. It is so tender and juicy, coupled with a mildly spicy curry sauce. My eyes popped when I first bit into the chicken katsu and discovered its perfect tenderness. The ramen is also one of the best. The tonkotsu isn't overly heavy, yet still thick, rich, and creamy. The amount of noodle is abundant, and the chashu was so flavorful, I would argue this ramen rivals some of the best from Japan. What a hidden gem.
Awesome ramen downtown SF. Perfect for a cold windy day. Also have bento options and Sushi. Good service, family owned. Must try!
Grateful to get an early seating at 5pm on Thanksgiving evening - as Tonton was one of very few places open. Small, cosy and homely Japanese restaurant. Service was friendly and very attentive. Chicken Katsu Curry portion was enormous and very tasty. As others have commented it is pretty unexpectedly spicy for a Japanese curry - so be warned. Reasonable prices.
Only suggestions are to put a PULL sign on the outside of your door to stop people (like me) thinking you are closed after many failed attempts at pushing it to go in! Also if there is a way to have the door automatically close and everytime people came in to order takeaway they woukd leave the door open and it would get very cold - save the waitresses having to run and close it all the time.
Came here for a casual dinner after getting a couples massage at siam thai orchid around the corner. It's a cute little hole in the wall spot with 7 tables. Affordable prices for great food. We tried the yuzu sour and peach sour chu-his for our drinks. I got a salmon inari to start and the spicy chasu ramen as my main. We also got the pork katsu curry. Everything was delicious. Planning to come back if we're ever in the union square area again.
Edit: I went 2 more times coz I really like their ramen and their chu-his. Noticed they don't serve inaris anymore, though.
Feb 2024: I went one more time and noticed the ramen broth didn't taste as flavorful as I remember it to be. The chashu also tastes different. A little sad that it's not as good as I remember it to be.
