Best KPortal Reviews
My friend had really high hopes for this restaurant, and I had a bad feeling about everything. This place had no customers during lunch time which only added to the eerie, quiet, and uncomfortable atmosphere. The service was kind but felt very desperate and forced. When I went to pay for my meal, the man who was supposed to ring me up told me to come behind the counter to pay. This made me very uncomfortable. If my friend hadn't already paid for her meal and sat down, I would've left without a word.
The restaurant was dirty. Nothing looked organized with stock overflowing from boxes left at the front of house. The dead bugs on the windowsill had been there so long they collected a few good layers of dust. After receiving our food, I noticed that everything was served in either a styrofoam, paper, or plastic container. Hot miso soup in styrofoam, my friend's sushi rolls on a plastic tray, and my meal conveniently already in a to-go box. No one is on dish-duty at this restaurant because there are NO dishes.
As for the food, I can safely say that this was the worst meal I have ever had. I ordered the beef teriyaki that came with a side of rice, salad, and miso. The beef had no taste with a rubbery texture. It was drowned in this "teriyaki sauce" that tasted like they concocted it themselves. I've also never known Asian salads to be spicy, so the weird glaze that was drizzled over my lettuce caught me off guard. The shredded onions in the miso soup looked like it was an attempt to make the soup taste fresher, and it didn't work. What is seen in the photo I attached is what was left of the mystery meat I pulled from the back of my throat. Not only would I not recommend this place to anyone, I wrote this review to WARN everyone about it.
Wonderful people and great food! They're always so kind and courteous the entire time you're there. They'll even walk across the store to hold the door open for you-- which is totally unnecessary but absolutely appreciated. I've started coming here often. Try it out if you haven't!
Absolutely wonderful time here! The food was delicious and well priced and the man at the front counter whom I assume was the owner was extremely friendly and attentive to us.
I ordered the dragon roll, Tokyo Special Roll, and chicken teriyaki bento. I've yet to try authentic Japanese food in Japan, but this is easily the best I've had out of six places in Modesto and easily rivals far more expensive food I've had in the Bay Area and Sacramento.
I came here to celebrate my birthday, and I'm usually too cheap to go out to eat other than special occasions, but I'm certainly making an exception for this restaurant and coming back here to explore more of their menu.
Since they're located downtown you may have a slight hassle in finding parking, and I'm sure that affording downtown rent prices is why they serve everything with disposable plates/utensils and don't invest money in "ambiance" but that's perfectly fine by me as all that really matters is the food, friendliness, and cost
The best sushi place in town. Customer service is exceptional, always greeted and treated like one of their own. Food always tastes fresh and great. Good prices. We regret going anywhere else when these guys are closed.
What a wonderfully delicious place to pop in and enjoy some great food and exceptional service. I highly, highly recommend the Hot and Spicy Ramen and don't let the name fool you because the hot and spice are not overbearing at all and in fact is simply, yet complex, flavor. I cannot be more pleased. Talk about comfort food! George is a great person and his wife Holly serves up the deliciousness! Located on J street in downtown Modesto. Pop in and give it a try. You'll be glad you did.
George is always great! The food always arrives promptly, tastes fresh and the portion sizes are good. The staff are always super kind. Highly recommend this place.
My husband and I biked here yesterday and had a most enjoyable dinner. We started with beer and appetizers well priced for Happy Hour. I then had a combination with sushimi and California roll. They were excellent. My husband had a pork dish that we both liked. The service was outstanding as well. We'll be back.
So we have been trying several different Chinese food spots and came across this one because of its good reviews talking about great food and the food was a complete bismal so I don't get what people were talking about. Everything tasted like it was cooked in burnt oil, the chicken fried rice and chicken chow mein had literally no flavor and huge pieces of chicken on top of those dishes without being atleast chopped up . The deep fried prawns was in a weird grayish color just like the egg rolls and pot stickers and fried cream cheese wonton not golden like they are supposed to be and the batter wasn't even fully cooked inside of the egg rolls which left a weird taste in your mouth. And the Mongolian beef was ok but very chewy meat and again a burnt taste. And the orange chicken was not horrible, but as you have a little more the flavor was not there. Don't see what people see in this place . Nice atmosphere and nice man who was running the cash register but definitely our first and last Tokyo express experience.
