Best KPortal Reviews
I loved the food and the environment. Felt like I was back home in Ghana
Update- took it down to three stars. Reception was very unwelcoming at my last visit. Almost felt like we were bothering them for coming. Hostess looked visibly angry/annoyed at us. I’m not sure if I’d visit again.
Real Ghanaian food thats rare to find across the UK only found in Northampton. The best news is its very delicious, money's worth????????
the food was absolutely dreadful, there was snot all over my chicken and there was no music, TERRIBLE however, my food was give to me before i sat down very fast! my fries were eaten by the 6 year old nigerian waiter, and he scurried away after i told him that it was not very nice i think the boy needs to be punished, the water came with melon, and i really liked the melon, surprsingly, there was no kool aid so i was very surprsied, as i thought. also was offered a full refund, but i decided not to as the nigerian waiter was starting to shrivell up. overall i think kfc is better, also there was a very pretty latina woman, sicko mode! see you later alligator
Very much worse in shop hygiene, from entrance to shop floor and counter. Bad customer service. After spent more than shocking £100, no thank you courtesy offer.
Overall, this place need spot check from authority. Not recommended environmental for children.
food great Service great Atmosphere great let me state resons budio food tastes like hevan i recommend jollof rice and plantain Service where all verry welcoming and freindly Atmosphere was good ig
Good food, could do with better and friendly staff.
Maybe the circumstances of me and my friends visiting this restaurant wasn't the greatest which most likely has resulted in an average (at best) review. Being slightly intoxicated with alcohol we left it to the 'boss' to serve us up some Afro-Caribbean delights to sober us up ????
Starters
For starters we were served a range of authentic delights - samosa, spring roll and what I assumed was shredded pork on the bone. The samosa and spring roll was very reminiscent of an Iceland Party Mix. I'm not claiming to be an expert in Afro-Caribbean cuisine but I've never heard of an African samosa. Being of south Asian decent I felt slightly excited to see an African samosa but it failed to live up to expectations.
On the whole not a great start.
Mains
For mains the 'boss' served us up plantains, beef curry (don't tell ghanesh), spicy chicken and a variety of rice (jaloff, pea rice and chicken rice). The chicken rice was very Asian in look and taste ????
The mains were better. The plantains were sweet and went well with the spicy (I'm a Hindu and going to hell) beef curry. The chicken was good too. Had a good kick to it that would please a south Asian palette and made my Caucasian fellow dinners red in the face with sweat on the brow.
The rice was... well it's rice not much else to say about that.
On the whole mains not bad.
Desert
Out came vanilla ice cream with a choice of chocolate sauce or strawberry sauce. I felt like I was reliving my fifth birthday party and the only thing we were missing were party hats and MILFS with big chests. A more authentic desert would have been better.
Service
This is where the place really excels. Having sent the Caucasian in to get us a table for 5 my man stuck out more than Robert Mugabe in heaven. The staff were really friendly and helpful and made us all feel welcome. The waiter also engaged in banter which was very important.
Summary
This place I feel has potential. Had we been bothered to look through the menu we may have ordered something more authentic. The place seems to side more on African food rather than Caribbean so some standard Caribbean starters like jerk chicken wings would have been great.
Samosa wasn't very African and same goes for the spring rolls. My mouth was left confused between Indian food, Chinese food with very little taste of Afro-Caribbean food.
Went back after my last visit which was a few years ago . Let me mention that my previous visist was amazing and the food was veey tasty so going back was nkt an issue . This trip however was shocking . It was Really bad experience and I wont be returning.
The host was Very unwelcoming almost looked annoyed at us being there. it felt almost as if we were bothering him. We had to stand and request for everything and he made no effort to come to our table. We didn't get any salt on the table and when we asked we were told we needed to go to him and ask . The food wasnt very nice lacked seasoning but salt or pepper wasnt available. The final bill was different from the menu and again the host acting like our questions were too much.
I told him about our previous experience and he replied that was the previous owner not us .
Waste of my money and travel
