Called in here in Sept 2014. The landlord and his wife went out of their way to please. Beautiful food, great conversation and great country side. Really enhanced the experience of 2 Aussies driving to St Just in search of our roots.

Awful. Took ages for us to be acknowledged by the old man, he asked us if we wanted a table around the corner in the restaurant and we said yes. I took my son in his pram over to see the bird by the bar, the old man pushed the pram away and said dont do that you are scaring the bird with your pram, he doesnt like machinery. So that annoyed me first of all, the bird shouldn't be in the room if it had psychological issues! Then he opened the restaurant door (i thought for us) so we went in after him and he said 'oh no, you can't come in yet, we aren't ready and shooed me out! He could have let us sit down and sort our son out, we werent asking to be fed immediately just wanted to sit and get settled. So at that point i turned around and walked out, wasnt being spoken to like that. Wont ever go back. Looked like a dive anyway.
In windy"syou are made very welcome as soonas you walk in the door.The landlord took the time to make himself known and speak to you.This pub has wonderful views over dartmoor whic can be seen from the garden.This was a pleasant experience.
Very good food happy landlord & landlady very nice views from the garden makes you welcome when you walk into the pub give it a visit you won't regret the visit..
