1st time here. This place has a romantic feel to it. Beautiful on the inside with soft jazz music playing. The street in front is closed off, so all the restaurants have tables outside with live music. We ate inside. We shared a cesar salad. I had the crab cakes for my entrée and my husband had the peppercorn roasted chicken. We both liked our meals. I had the peach sangria to drink, and my husband had the pear Martini and a black bullet whiskey Manhattan. He loved his drinks. For dessert, we shared the oatmeal pie. ???? thanks for the lovely dinner and for comping our dessert for our anniversary.
This place was fantastic. My dad recommended it to me and he was right on. The crab cakes were fantastic!. The bar was great and the atmosphere in the entire restaurant was perfect. The waitstaff was friendly and right on top of things. I would definitely come back.
After all the hype, we were actually disappointed overall. The crabcakes were the best thing. They were decent sized and pretty tasty. The she-cran soup was also pretty good and was my favorite.
Now, we ordered the calamari and the breading was overcooked and tasted burned even though it looked ok, maybe fried in old oil? Inside, it was very chewy to the point of being rubbery; we ended up sending it back.
For entrees, I ordered the scallops and risotto, and my husband ordered a NY strip. His steak looked so dry before he even cut into it, worse when he did. It had no flavor, as if it was not seasoned before throwing it on a flap top. My scallops were ok, no flavor but cooked well, but the risotto was so salty and some bits were crispy and undercooked, I couldn't eat it. I ate the scallops and left the risotto.
It could have just been an off night, so I'm not hating on them at all, but we just won't be back any time soon unless we're craving a crabcake.
The She Crab cream soup with sherry was light and tasty for a cream based soup. The cesar salad was good with house made croutons, fresh shredded parmesan cheese. We had the horseradish crusted salmon and the crab stuffed baked shrimp. The salmon was unique in flavor. The mashed potatoes were light and flavorful. Sauteed spinach, well spinach. I was given 4 crab stuffed shrimp, wild rice pilaf, and broccoli. The items were prepared in a healthful manner for the health conscience. I prefer butter and lemon, with those additions it was more to my liking. The broccoli was lanky, not the florets we have in California. The french bread was very crusty, leaving crumbs everywhere. It was served with whipped butter. For dessert we shared an orange creme brule' was divine! Excellent orange flavor.
We ate the Maine Lobster, New York Steak , Crab Cakes and the She crab soup. All were cooked perfectly and tasted Amazing, it was my Birthday today and the Server surprised me with a cheesecake and candle that was a pleasant surprise. Were from Florida and this restaurant is better then any Seafood restaurants in our state.
Decided to try this out for restaurant week. I couldn't decide between the she crab soup and the lobster and shrimp arancini. I went with the arancini and my waitress was kind enough to give me a sample of the soup. They were both ok. The soup was heavy on Sherry and taste like it nay have had onions in it as well. For my entree I went with the famous crab cakes. It was an excellent choice. There was all lump and no filler. Very flavorful. And the potatoes were very tasty as well. The tartar sauce had a lot of onion in it, but it wasn't needed anyway.For dessert I chose the bread pudding. It was ok as well. Service was good and all of the staff that I encountered were very nice.
Keep in mind that the market square garage parking on weeknights is not $5 as listed on the site. My parking was $17 on a Friday after 5 pm
Fantastic place to eat. Nice ambience, great waiters,and excellent seafood. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I had the Chilean Sea Bass with Bok Choy and black rice. It was delicious. Really nice experience.
We were in Old Town Alexandria and wanted to try one of the few places I have never been to!
The menu is decent!
The selection is pretty good but the prices in my opinion are not a good value for the money.
The food is very good though, service was a little slow but none the less, I rate it as good.
I would probably go back again for a special occasion but it is pricey for a go to place.
None the less it is worth a visit if your in old town.
It is one the last block that is blocked off from traffic.
