Great place for brunch. I got the lobster and waffles which was amazing. The waffles are more of a funnel cake batter so sweet and with the crispy crunch fried lobster tail the combination was really amazing. The service was okay, considering the price range of the restaurant I kinda expected more. There were at least two occasions where our waitress disappeared and we had to ask other waiters/hostess to get our waitress. Other than that the food and atmosphere were really nice. We were able to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the lovely weather. If you are looking for a place to brunch this is the place to be! Also they have valet for $15 but I was able to spot hero close by for $7 so check that out if you plan on driving!
This is a really cute brunch spot, perfect for a brunch with the girls. The food was pretty average. We ordered the deviled eggs which had an overload of mustard, however, the shrimp grits and chicken sandwich were good. The chicken sandwich was tasty but I had to ask for lettuce because it did not come with anything else besides pickles, chicken and the bun.
I had this place on my dine out list and I met my best friend here for my birthday. To my surprise, my other two friends were here as well. It was brunch time, but because the servers knew it was my birthday, they gave me access to the whole menu. The manager even came over to apologize to my best friend for how long her deviled eggs took. Keep in mind, it wasn’t long at all and we didn’t even notice, but he said, “No, not ok” and she was not charged. It was a beautiful day out. The atmosphere is so fun yet comfortable. The sun was shining. The service was 10/10. The lobster and waffles were AMAZING and I had the best ginger MOCKtail I’ve ever had. PLEASE hit Whale this summer! Has been added to one of my favorite Chicago spots! ✨✨✨
Loved this place so much! Cool vibe, great in-door/out-door space. Went there for brunc and the food was outstanding. We had the avocado toast and shrimp and grits. Also, try the mimosa tower. The cocktails were fantastic.
This is definitely going to be my go-to brunch spot this summer.
The Whale Chicago's brunch is a standout with its lively vibe, great tunes, and diverse crowd. Indulge in their mouthwatering lobster rolls, juicy chicken wings, and scrumptious crab cakes. The chicken and waffles are a delight, and the steak and eggs are a must-try. Elevate your experience with their famous mimosa tower and an array of delicious drinks. It's the ultimate brunch destination!
I lived down the street when The Whale first opened and my boyfriend and I were here nearly every week. We loved the spreads (pimento, french onion, and Louisiana Hot (which is no longer on the menu)) We thought they had the best chicken sandwich in existence and I always get excited about their circulating frozen cocktails.
When the place opened, I would have given 5 stars. It was fairly priced, the owner would come around to chat, they have my favorite decorated bathrooms in the city. And the atmosphere is unique and flirty.
However, I’m writing this now to say that I no longer desire to come anymore, especially for brunch. They’re always busy which is good, but when you can even get a table, the music is SO LOUD that you can’t hear your friends talking. They used to turn up the music at nighttime which was fine, but I personally don’t want "club brunch" on a Sunday afternoon and that’s really turned myself and my friends away.
I also don’t recall the spreads being $25 which seems too overpriced to get now like we always used to do. If they turned that price down lower along with their music I’d likely become a regular again.
Very lowkey place, great energy. Little to no wait to be seated on a busy Sunday afternoon.
I recommend the The Standfield, and the fingerling potatoes. The lobster and Waffles were great!
Best chicken and waffles I have ever had. Beautiful interiors and good service. Only con was that the music was a little too loud for me.
