This is my first year having dinner in the Walnut Room and it will definitely turn into a tradition going forward. The tree is beautiful and the atmosphere is so festive. The service is great! All of the employees seem to enjoy what they do and interact with the customers. The menu isn’t very long but the food my family had was all good. The best was probably the chicken pot pie. Get the $3 souvenir cup if you can! It’s sturdy and says Marshall Fields which is an awesome nod to the history of the building and Chicago.
This was a bucket list experience and it was awesome. I was worried the food would be average, but the burger was great. Kids chicken fingers with chocolate milk was also a big hit. We got seated next to the tree and it was awesome. The server, Annette, was super kind and good. Highly recommend doing this if you have kids!
The experience was good. The food was OK. Cheese and butter board was overpriced and some items like grapes and other fruits were missing. They were out of shrimp cocktail which i wanted to add to my lobster bisque. Had the chicken pot pie which was ok. The overall experience was new and different. Beautiful Christmas decorations.
This was my first time going. I’ve heard from many others that they went as a child and it’s a tradition to go every year. I had expectations of going in it’s a “instagram” place or overpriced with mediocre food due to its location, but after today’s first experience, I think otherwise.
Jesus was great. Knowledgeable about kids with allergies
Had a card that indicated all the allergens but also had it memorized. He checked in on us right amount of time and was very accommodating.
We ordered the pot pie- my dining mate loved it
I had the burger- smash burger. It was perfect.
My kids had salmon & roasted turkey. Due to their food allergies, sides needed to be swapped but kids still loved it.
Fairy came by, gave my kids a special marble & fairy dust.
Food was good. Price was good. Decor was on point. Fairies were perfect. It was a fun experience and now I see why people go year after year. I can’t wait to go again.
Still a great classic after all these years. I've been coming here for almost 40 years. Unique trees with different colors and themes yearly. Didn't seem to be as busy in the past, but it's early. Pricing is still very modest for the area. The server was very friendly and nice. The appetizer came out quickly, the salads were a little bit flat maybe because it's towards the end of the evening. Didn't order any drinks, the dinner was very tasteful, an adequate sized portion but nothing overwhelming.
Got help from the staff taking pictures without feeling pressured to hurry up.
Very nice place still after decades of service.
My mom and I stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night during Chicago restaurant week. The halibut was delicious, and so was the French onion soup! Mint cheesecake was divine. However, the place was empty and concerning that this may be an end to an Era. Hopefully, the Walnut Room can keep thriving. For how empty the place was, our server could have come around a little more quicker as well for drink refills and the bill.
We had an amazing time. The food was SO GOOD and FRESH. Fast and Good service. Our waitress “Lori”, OMG, she was amazing. She deserves a promotion or a pay raise. She Was kind, patient, took time to care for our needs, explained the menu etc. If I ever go back, I want her to be my waitress next time. She was amazing. Overall Beyond10+ rating. Amazing amazing amazing!!!
This has been a favorite since I would come here 30 years ago when it was in Marshall Fields. Although it no longer has a long waiting list to get in or its signature dishes it still has excellent food, service and a beautiful setting. The salmon salad was large and delicious and my husbands sirloin burger as good now as then. Great memories here.
