Good selection of real ales or a cider, food was great, we sampled the lamb shank and chicken Dijon which arrived with a good selection of fresh veg. The only negative would be the threadbare carpets but to be honest who goes to the pub to look at the carpets (and if you do how sad). Good beer and great food reasonably priced.
Would give five stars, but the decor is sad and dated. The food however was amazing, and i would rather have great food than fancy furnishings and ecpensive, poorly made fare. Everything that came out looked and tasted wonderful. Staff were really nice and most helpful, although we had to wait a while before we could get their attention for drink refills. Can really recommend. Not dog friendly.
Fantastic meal, large portions and i promise you won't go hungry. Pleasant and warming staff. A very lovely evening meal with friends and a lovely Free House with a great selection of beers and cider.
The person behind the bar never smiled and had poor customer service skills. The decor is dated and shabby. The food was OK.
Needs a complete overhaul as does the menu. Staff should be welcoming not snappy
We called in here on Thursday 15th March at lunch time. It was a cold and wet day. As we walked in we found this place to be a very traditional styled pub (which i like) and warm with 2 real looking fires on.
I was with my step mam and my brother as we had been paying respects elsewhere.
My step mam got the Salmon and my brother and i had Cumberland Sausage with mash etc. The quality of the food was excellent with generous portions. We also had a large bowl of perfectly cooked fresh vegetables.
The place looked well used but that added to it's appeal but nipping clean.
Well recommended, and that's from me (a right twisty sod) Ha
There were four of us for Sunday lunch - the meals came plated up rather than separate bowls of vegetables. The meal was really nice with plenty of meat choices. One of us had three courses & he enjoyed all of the food. If you just have Sunday lunch it is only £7.65, very reasonable. We have also dined here on an evening, I had a salmon dish, I think it was about £11.50 and when it came out I was shocked because the salmon was large - much larger than I've had when dining out. The only reason I've given 4 stars instead of 5 is the decor, it really needs updating. I get that given the large rooms it will probs be expensive but they would attract far more people & having read other reviews, they'd bring back the people who won't dine there again owing to frayed carpet etc. However, that hasn't put us off as the food is great.
Terrible !!!! I came here 10 years ago the food was out of this world came back with my partner for Sunday lunch today and was very disappointed !!
The beef was sliced from a deli counter the coliflour had cheese on which wasn't stated frozen potatoes frozen Yorkshire puddings !!! We asked for drinks and were told go to the bar and get your own !! I was very disappointed I defiantly won't be returning !! Shame as this used to serve beautiful food . Also the staff with their backsides hanging out of their skirts was a bit off putting !
My wife & I love the meals at The Sun Inn, Sunday lunch is tasty/ hot & plenty of it, and it's the same with their Bar meals. Thumbs up ????
