Best KPortal Reviews

5/5 on taste and quality. ????
The food is very comforting and delicately spiced, which gives a very balanced flavour.
Most of the dishes available are fully vegan.
The prices are very reasonable.
There's also a possibility of getting the food to take away in a tiffin, cute as. ????
Excellent curry, lots of different spice flavours and fragment rice. Nice personal experience. We sent a WhatsApp Saturday morning to pre order. When collecting in the evening we were felt very welcomed and enjoyed the tiffin experience. Returned the tiffins on Monday. Thanks!
It brings joy to my heart to have been recommended this place to try. The concept is small batch cooking with the energy being focussed on a limited Indian menu, lovingly prepared, in an impeccably, clean kitchen/shop front and by a lovely and engaged lady… who is obviously passionate in providing high quality food.
We had an amazing curry, taken away in metal tiffin tins which of course means there is no waste packaging. What a breath of fresh air THAT is!
If any curry is left over at the end of the day, it goes in the fridge to buy for reheating. If that is not sold then it is frozen and for sale. This means there is almost no food waste as well!
Hats off. This deserves all the accolades it is getting. Thank you for stepping up and showing what can be done and providing something wonderful that should, and could, be a lesson in how to create a business model that I’d love to see implemented everywhere. Let’s hope you inspire others ????
Refreshingly authentic and amazingly healthy curries, far from the usual mass produced bland and creamy goop that's on offer in most 'so called' Indian restaurants. The owner goes out of her way to explain the dishes on offer (hot food ready to eat, plus chilled and frozen options too for home heating), and will go the extra mile to provide everything that's needed. Probably the best Indian food in North Devon.
Delicious lamb curry on Friday with all the extras. Bit baffled why Adele Hart thought the staff were rude - mind you, looking at her other reviews, I don't think anywhere in Lynton was going to please her. I was greeted with a huge smile despite the fact that it was a bank holiday and the owner was obviously run off her feet. Get there early to ensure that the Spicy Mare hasn't run out of food. It's small batch cooking, not the mass produced whatever that you so often get in this country.
Superb food, lovely way to start our holiday with a delicious trio of curries on Friday evening. All very flavoursome. Nice touch with the takeaway in the tiffin box too.
Moved to Devon a year ago, and visited Lynton and Lynmouth today, with the wife for a day out, after seeing all the tourist spots, on our way back to the car for our drive back, we stopped by the spicy mare because I could recognise the smell of the delicious food from outside, reminded me of home (New Delhi, India). We went in and the owner was lovely, we were planning to get some snacks for the car ride but ended up getting the Rajma, Rice and Raita, just because it looked and smelled so freakin amazing and my god, were we glad we did! This has to be the most authentic Delhi/Indian food I have had since moving to the UK. I hope the owner gets the recognition she deserves. I am planning to drive up 20 miles just so I can enjoy the food again.
I would be surprised if there's better Indian food to be found in the South-West.
For so many places, the Indian-ness is like a filter put over pulled-together food. At The Spicy Mare it is a true character that runs through the whole of the dish. Whatever is available when you go you can be sure of deeply-felt, subtly-flavoured, rich and extremely wholesome food at incredible value.
Deserves to be a local legend. I went six months ago and was instantly transported back to the best of the food I had when I lived in India (a small place in Goa, since you didn't ask). Just now I opened a jar of The Spicy Mare's absolutely polished and perfect Lime Pickle. I live in Philadelphia, but I found myself mysteriously transported back to, of all places, Lynton.
Go.
