Best KPortal Reviews

Excellent brunch today! It was a beautiful day in the city so it was nice the accordion windows were open. Highly recommend the pancakes, and goat cheese and spinach omelette. Decent size portions and delicious. There were three standouts though that were amazing!!! Caesar salad with Parmesan croutons, the spritz cocktail and possibly the best sticky toffee pudding on earth! Don’t miss the brunch deal that includes a free brunch cocktail. Can’t wait to go back!
It was just me and wanted to try the french toast (thats what I usually do at all diners and breakfast places that I visit). Added to that, I wanted to try their fresh pressed orange juice (it was indeed fresh and wonderful). The vanilla bean french toast was smelling so good, tasting so fresh and it was filling along with the orange juice. I stayed nearby and hence walked to this place. Not sure about their parking. Staff were friendly and had smiling faces. I went in late around 10:30 AM and so found a spot quickly.
The Smith was amazing! They effortlessly accommodated our party of 11 with a reservation, and dinner was absolutely delicious, pleasing everyone. The service was outstanding.
Despite my severe allergies to gluten, corn, and oats, I was still able to enjoy appetizers, an entree, and dessert. The staff took special care to ensure my food was prepared safely, making me feel confident and safe.
I highly recommend this spot for its food, cocktails, service, and ambiance!
Amazing place and as usual it's the staff that make the difference. We went for late Saturday brunch - they do weekend brunch till 4pm!! I think it's fair to say we can all get behind late weekend brunch!!
I got the NY strip steak and eggs and it really was exceptional!
A real stand out was the attention to detail of the staff - we noticed a busser see that the dishwasher had left water marks on some silverware - he than went and checked every piece of silverware layed out on any and all of the unoccupied tables - that's classy!!
Saving the best for last - our sever was called Theo and I have to say he was excellent. His pleasant manner and professionalism was a real treat.
We will most definitely be back to The Smith when we make a return journey to Chicago
As much as I would love to give them a good review ( because the food and the drinks were good ) but their service was just not there. Our food came and we took our time to finish it and only after we called the server to get the check, he asked if everything was okay!!!! 1 hour and he did not even bother to check on us. I don't know if this is normal for Chicago but in Seattle we always get good service.
Food was delicious. Good healthy selection of appetizers. Service was really bad. They forgot about our big table of 8. We had to keep waving the server down and we were assigned two servers. The atmosphere was really loud. Whether you were upstairs or downstairs, the noise level was high (it feels like you're in a market). Prices were fair in the high $20s to mid 30s for dinner. I was impressed by the dishes. It definitely compensates for the bad service and loud atmosphere.
I recently visited The Smith for the first time after attending church on a chilly Sunday morning. Being the first place open, we eagerly walked in at 10 a.m. to find a warm and inviting atmosphere, a welcome relief from the freezing temperatures outside.
The seating process was prompt, and our server, Spencer, stood out with his cool, fast, and attentive service. Despite reading some negative reviews about the service, our experience with Spencer was quite pleasant.
I started my meal with a latte, desiring a vanilla flavor that, unfortunately, wasn't available. The presentation of the latte fell short of expectations, lacking the artistic touch often associated with such beverages. However, the cozy ambiance compensated for this minor disappointment.
Our order included the Spicy Salmon Tartare, which, unfortunately, left much to be desired. With a lack of flavor, an odd taste reminiscent of staleness, and a cardboard-like texture, it was a one-bite-and-done situation. On the other hand, the Avocado Toast, though presented well, left me wanting with guacamole replacing fresh sliced avocados. It was satisfactory but not something I would order again.
Fortunately, my friends had a better experience with their dishes. The Shrimp and Grits, a first for someone unfamiliar with grits, received high praise for its tastiness. The Smoked Salmon Toast, enjoyed by another friend, stood out with amazing flavors, fresh salmon, and perfect seasoning.
One noteworthy aspect was a special deal offering a free drink on Sundays, although regrettably, I forgot to take advantage of it. This Sunday special added a positive touch to the overall experience.
In conclusion, my brunch experience at The Smith had its highs and lows. While some dishes fell short of expectations, others impressed with their taste and presentation. The service, contrary to some reviews, was commendable. I may consider returning for dinner as the menu appears promising, hoping for a more consistent culinary experience.
Came here for dinner on Friday around 5:30 ish and it was fairly quiet and we were able to get seats right away.
It seemed most people ordered from the raw bar, but we decided on the crispy sesame calamari, shrimp tagliatelle, and the rigatoni aka vodka… all was so so yummers.
We will definitely go back to try their other dishes. Their cocktails were great as well. We had the Gatsby and expresso martini and they were perfect and refreshing.
