This was our first time here and we had a fantastic time. The wait staff, food, and craft cocktails were all delicious. The oysters were especially good and well shucked. Highly recommend this if you're in DC near the waterfront.
The Salt Line Oyster & Ale is a nice upscale restaurant on the wharf district. They have ample happy hours from 4-6 on Monday through Thursday with Friday’s happy hour from noon to 6 pm. The oysters were local and delicious. Fish sandwich was sloppy but good flavor. The clam chowder is an explosion of flavors, the only thing I didn’t prefer, the soup was too thin, my preference is a thicker base. If you like sea food and are in the DC area, I’d recommend the Salt Line.
Food was on point!! Our server was nice and helpful with explaining the menu. My Old Fashion was smooth and my fish sandwich was crispy and succulent ????????. Visit if you can if your are in the Navy Yard area.
Good atmosphere and tasty food but portion sizes pathetic. My mahi mahi was clearly appetizer sized. Was told that this was a standard portion but judge for yourself from picture. Also draft cocktails were undrinkable. Otherwise an okay place.
Thank you for your response. No need to take it off bill. I did indeed bring it to attention of both server and manager. Both of whom said “that’s a normal portion” and nothing further.
If I could give it a 10 I would! First off let’s just take in the prime location, the views and ambiance. The drinks and the food were outstanding. The wait staff was on top of their game making sure we were satisfied. The manager Carlos was presently vigilant and came around to introduce himself to everyone make sure things were running smooth. This is what true customer service and satisfaction is about.
They have great tasting seafood plus a large variety of it, an amazing view, and nice atmosphere. Which is why it kills me that we left with a sour taste in our mouth at the end due to the surprise 4% surcharge. They are charging it due to “rising labor costs associated with the new DC on minimum wages for tipped workers”, yet many places in DC do not add a surcharge. The surcharge is also counted towards the DC tax calculation and they include it in the added total for you to be aware of what to tip on. The only way to know ahead of time that there will be this added surcharge is from very tiny font at the bottom of the main menu. I highly recommend management get rid of this and simply increase prices if they have to rather than do this surcharge. It’s just very annoying and feels misleading. Other than that, the fried clam bellies and lobster roll were delicious, albeit expensive. The bartender was great and you cannot beat the view there. Would recommend eating outside on the patio if weather permits.
Solid service and comfortable location overcome just OK food to earn 4 stars. The food here was fine. My smash burger was the winner. The fish sandwich and shrimp roll were just ok to my party. Drinks were fine and cost what you'd expect for the location. The waterfront makes a welcoming location to meet friends for a meal. And our service was top notch. We'd return to try other items.

My original review from June: I’m usually an all or nothing person, but I feel this place could have been a five if I visited when they had more staff and were less busy.
Their oysters are amazing!!! And their oyster shots are exceptional.
The main entrees were well plated and tasty, but smaller than I expected them to be. (If mine didn’t arrive to me cold, I would’ve been happier.)
Our server was not attentive and by the time we flagged her down to ask about the appetizers we ordered, she asked us if we wanted to just take them off our order ….”since it had been so long”. Of course we still wanted them! We were sitting at the table with no food.
Overall, I have decided I will give this place another chance during a less busy time and see how it goes.
