Best KPortal Reviews
The price is too high for low quality. I ordered a salad for $20 and as an add-on a portion of shrimp, which was charged for an additional $6. Exactly three pieces were served... The staff reacted evasively to my question. I cannot recommend a visit.
This review is about the breakfast service. We didn't return for dinner because we opted for frozen burritos from the hotel's minimart instead of subjecting ourselves to more of this restaurant's "cuisine." Hopefully, you'll read this review before your trip (there's no reception in the area, so no way to check reviews on-site).
We arrived at the River Restaurant & Lodge in the morning, gearing up for a full day in Yosemite. The place was empty except for a couple with long faces after their meal. We were seated quickly, and the server mumbled something we couldn't understand, so we asked to see the menu. There was no menu or other indication; the only option was a breakfast buffet, with the price undisclosed (found out when we got the check, $21.95 per person before tax/tip).
We made our way to the buffet and picked up some items. All the food was unlabeled and looked very unappetizing — we should have left then. Grabbed some pancakes and French toast — how can you go wrong with those? Well, it turns out you can. The pancakes were lukewarm, rubbery, flavorless, the same size, and the same shape, suggesting they were frozen pancakes. The syrup was extremely watered down. The powdered sugar on the French toast had a grainy texture and was clumpy. Unsurprisingly, the French toast was dry and had a weird consistency. We also picked up a mini poppy-lemon muffin, and somehow it was slimy and wet on top.
The food gave the impression that it had been cooked days prior and just reheated over and over, then served to a captive audience with no other options nearby: the definition of a tourist trap.
If you're in the area, spare yourself from this experience and either grab something from the minimart or head directly into Yosemite for a better meal.
We had a great experience. Food was delicious and tasted like much needed homemade food . Very tasty fish which was a trout, tuna appetizer and ginger chicken . We enjoyed our dinner and had a great time chatting with a friend. For desserts we ordered apple tart with vanilla ice cream VERY delicious and my friend ordered New York cheesecake which was great too.
We drove for 3 hrs to have dinner and coffee by this amazingly beautiful roaring river, and it was worth it. The food was fairly good they serve simple American Italian food, but the ambiance is spectacular. Yosemite View Lodge was almost full. Yosemite is beautiful this time of the year, specially after the heavy rain we had in Spring. I didn't take picture of the food but found the it online :)
Nice and decent place to eat after hiking. We ordered Chicken Marsala, Chicken Wings, and Ribs which were all delicious. Ee visited this place 2x for dinner and could get seat pretty quick. The wait time for the foods could get pretty long during peak hours.
We hada nice dinner here this week. The service was very good. I ordered the New York steak and it was very good. My wife had the stir fry which was a bit too sweet for her taste. My daughters shared a fettuccine which was ok though may be a bit plain. We also had the carrot cake and chocolate cake for dessert and both were really good. It was a nice dinner experience, even though the price was a bit expensive.
The food here can be hit and miss. One of our guests had the pesto tortellini with roasted vegetables and it was literally swimming in a bath of oil. The stir fry vegetables had a very sweet taste to them which was not what we expected. The other meals were okay without being all that great. The price is higher than what you would normally pay given the quality of the food but given the location you have to accept this. If we stay in this establishment again I will bring my own food next time
Had the worst prime rib ever here.
Key takeaways for dinner service:
- very long wait time: > 30 min to be seated, another 30 min for the food
- bad food: the steak came out WARM, had to be reheated.
- bad service: waited 10 minutes for the check
Avoid here if possible, I suggest to dine else where in Mariposa, worth the drive.
