I had the most fun at their drag brunch! The acts are pretty unique, the ladies were fun and they brought it!!! The food was pretty good, basic breakfast/brunch food. Eh… it’s pretty expensive though. I believe it’s like $60 per person, it includes drinks and food. I don’t drink, so the $60 seems like a steep price for someone just eating eggs and bacon and seeing a drag show. Would be great if they offered a less expensive option for people who don’t drink.
The River is a nice bar and event space off of Sheffield. It was not very crowded when I was there compared to some of the other bars in the area, which was nice for getting in and finding a place to sit and have a couple beers. The prices are standard Chicago prices, but they also seem to have some cool events like bottomless mimosas with a cereal bar. I will probably be back some time in the future.
The River Drag Brunch is an experience everyone needs to do at least once in their life because it is a meal and a show and drinks all in one. It is super reasonable and all the people there are friendly and welcoming
Ahh de River. If you're looking for a place that combines liquid courage, laughter, and a touch of flirting finesse, look no further. The River is like the lovechild of a comedy show and a mixology masterclass, and it's all thanks to the hero of the bar scene – the one and only, bartender Mike.
Let's talk about Mike's mixed drink skills. His cocktails are strong, bold, and ready to save your night. They're not just drinks; they're like a boozy Picasso painting. I ordered a cocktail, and I swear it had more layers than my aunt's lasagna. I asked for a gin and tonic, and I think he mistook "tonic" for "more gin" because my glass was practically doing the cha-cha with every sip. I'm convinced he has a secret mission to make sure no glass ever feels empty.
And then there's Mike's flirting game. This guy could charm the socks off a snake. He's like the James Bond of bartenders, with a wink that could make even the most stoic statues blush. I'm pretty sure he flirted with everyone at the bar, and we all loved it. It's not just mixing drinks; it's mixing up the perfect cocktail of banter and booze. By the end of the night, he had more phone numbers than the local pizza joint.
But it's not just about the booze and the banter – Mike made my friend's birthday the stuff of legends. He brought out a shot that was basically a party in a glass, complete with sparklers. I swear, her smile was so big; it could've been mistaken for a billboard.
So, if you're up for a night of heavy pours, shameless flirting, and the kind of laughter that makes your abs ache, swing by The River. Just be warned: you might leave wondering if you accidentally stumbled into a comedy club with a drink minimum. Cheers to Mike – the bartender extraordinaire!
We LOVED hosting our 25th birthday party here! The space was great and super cute. The staff was so easy to coordinate with and Roger was the best, most fun, most attentive bartender for our group. Would highly recommend for your event!!!
Only got to come here for an early dinner during the week. Food was pretty good and definitely seemed like a popular spot as we we’re passing late one evening. Drinks were pretty good with plenty of beer and cocktail options. Enjoyed and plan on returning!
there's a reason they have the slogan "THE BEST DRAG BRUNCH IN CHICAGO" What a show did they put on! from the queens to the servers, everyone was there to have a great time! drinks were flowing, the food was quick and plenty of it! WE LOVE THE BACON!! Cant wait to go back!
Coordinating this event with staff member Desi was easy and efficient. She responded promptly and positively. Everyone involved was so accomodating of our party. The security staff as well as the bartender who worked our event in the side room were kind and hardworking. The side room itself was well decorated for the holidays and a perfect size for (in my opinion) anywhere from 30-50 individuals. The music played by the bar throughout our party was lively, and the drinks were great (food was not a part of the package we purchased, though it looked delicious in the main room as enjoyed by other patrons!). The side room has its own single bathroom, which was clean and nicely designed/decorated. I have 0 complaints about The River Kitchen and Bar and absolutely recommend it to anyone hosting a birthday celebration, family reunion/gathering, office party, etc.
