Best KPortal Reviews

Stayed two nights. Very warm and hospitable welcome. First nights food was excellent and reasonably priced. Very good home cooked selection on the menu. The best I have seen in years. Restaurant closed early on our second nights stay due to a family emergency crisis so we missed out on the meals. Breakfast was good with reasonable sized teapot.
We would highly recommend this hotel, restaurant and bar.
We look forward to returning.
Thank you to all of the lovely staff.
Everything about this place seemed like from another century. The matresses were very uncomfortable, we only had one towel for two people and no shampoo or anything. Staff was not very welcoming. It was also very loud, I had to sleep with the neighbours snoring and woke up from someone elses use of the bathroom. Breakfast was fine and we could park right by the house. But all in all it wasn't our most pleasant stay.
We stayed here on a motorcycling trip across Wales. What a lovely family run place. The building is old and lovely. The bar and restaurant are cosy and there are great beers on tap. The food was excellent. All home cooked. And we thought it was great value. Don’t expect state of the art rooms as the building is listed. B it you can expect charm and a lovely welcome by the really nice people who run it.
Absolute gold ????
Great homely feel lovely staff great prices classic meals all home cooked ????the banana split was amazing ????
Room absolutely covered in ingrained dust and dirt|Headboard covered in dust and not fixed to bed windowsills, lightshade , pipework covered in dust|Bedding ripped , valance sheet covered in mud?|Carpet covered in stains and dog hair|Husband said it looked like the room had been neglected for a long time and not cleaned|Room also freezing cold|Bathroom full of mould and dust|Husband and daughter went for time together, and within hours checked out because it was so bad|They did say the staff were lovely , just the accommodation was terrible
Most difficult review I have had to write to date. Reviews said place very dated but to be honest the place is in a bad state of repair and there were so many things we would normally complain about but the staff are so lovely and accommodating the food is just delicious and very reasonably priced the drinks are cheap and the locals make you feel really welcome so all of that outways the condition of the accommodation.
We booked the rhymney for 2 nights in a tripple room for ourselves and our 9 year old grandson. On arrival at almost 6pm and travelling for hours we were told we had to have evening meal straight away as the person doing food had to go. We didnt want to eat on arrival, so missed out on an evening meal. Tony the landlird was very friendly. Only good thing sbout the rhymnet. He took us to our room at the very top, then informwd us there was no hit water and no heating. He gave us an electric heater which did warm the room up. He told us the shower was electric so we would get hot water. What a waste of time the shower was. No pressure what so ever. The shower tray was filthy and black mould. The whole bathroom was dirty. The room itself very basic and very very dirty with only a kettle, nowhere to hang clothes, dirty knickers from a previous guest under the bed. The following morning we went down for breskfast, only to find a dog in the dinning room. I understand its a pet friendly hotel, but it wouud be nice to seperate dogs from food. Our grandson is terrified of dogs, so we didnt get breakfast that morning either. We went back to our room packed up and left. We paid £150 For a dirty room for 1 night
Upon arriving and with my work colleagues going on about bad reviews posted online, my hopes weren’t high. Outdated and room was cold, after a 7 he drive and a half work shift I had no choice but to stay.
Well, what can I say…
Woke up feeling good, had quite a good nights sleep to be fair, bed was a little soft but that’s personal preference but quilt was thick enough. Breakfast was good, basic but tasty and did its job.
We also decided to try the hotels dinner menu. Wasn’t holding high hopes but was pleasantly surprised, stayed four nights and each night had something different, well played chef, great, tasty food! Colleague loved his too with not one complaint!
If it’s a cheap night, with bed and breakfast you want then go for it, romantic night away maybe not.
