Took Dad here the other night for a belated Father's Day dinner. Mom and I had the walleye, and that was completely delightful - broiled perfectly where it was at its moist and flaky best. Dad wasn't that hungry, and he ordered some potato skins to eat in. and a rack of ribs to take home for snacking. Sadly, when we got home we found out the ribs were miserable. They were so dry I could hardly even chew them. I offered to take them back but Dad chucked them into the garbage can before I had a chance.
Beside the food, the service was very good and professional; attentive without being hovering. The prices are a little high for the area, but it is the height of the tourist season, and I am sure we were hit up for tourist prices.
Mom and Dad live nearby and they eat here often. Then were surprised about the ribs and said that they had never had a problem with the food before. They tell me they make the best pizza between Rogers City and Alpena here. But I can't rate them any better than 3 stars based on my experience. If the service and the walleye hadn't been exceptional I would have only given them 2 stars.
Visited three times over the summer. Fantastic meal each time. The create your own seafood combo is my favorite. The prime rib never disappoints either. Wait staff is the best you will find.
well, the prior licensees did a commendable job. my understanding is that the bid opening is April 30, 2019. After which, results of public bid will determine if or when it opens. Much has happened over the winter. The community certainly wants it to open, and be the shining star it once was. The DNR spoke with PI Advance in editorial.
Staff was very friendly. The chef came out to apologize for not having something I ordered, which was not a big deal. The food was delicious! A little on the pricey side, but worth the quality of the food. Also had very clean facilities.
Soggy vegetables, "fishy" taste on expensive dishes, inept waitress, poor attitudes, EXTREMELY outdated decor, decent views, no wi-fi, disgusting exterior. Needs to be bulldozed and rebuilt in this landmark setting.
Best restaurant in NE MI. Shame on you DNR for not facilitating the situation so this place could remain open. Another historic local institution gone.
Very nice place to eat! The staff is attentive the atmosphere is wonderful, the scenery is beautiful. The food is fabulous!
Portage restaurant is closed. Could not find staffing. Deli, pizza and small store next door
