Booked for a party of 32 people for my daughter’s 18th birthday party. Food was mediocre at best and the young bar staff and waitresses don’t know the meaning of politeness and hospitality. They were so miserable and rude and clearly there just to get their shift done and go home. A smile and a please and thank you wouldn’t go a miss! The steaks were just ok but the pork chops were tough as old boots and garnished with chillies! Not advertised anywhere on the menu as being garnished with chillies! Certainly not nice for some party members that don’t like spicy food. We brought a birthday cake for my daughter that cost £90 so all our family could have a slice of cake after their meal to celebrate her special day only to be told by staff that they would not accommodate us what so ever as they didn’t know where the cake came from so we were not given a knife to slice the cake, or plates or serviettes and they were very rude when questioned. If we knew this was their policy before we arrived then we would have booked somewhere else. In a day and age where the restaurant and pub trade is struggling you would think the Pantyscallog would be more accommodating and more grateful for our custom. After having a word with the manager she did throw down a few paper napkins for us to use but they were given reluctantly and with attitude. I believe that the manager and staff have really let themselves down on this occasion as we will no longer be using the establishment for any future celebrations and we will discourage anyone that is thinking of celebrating any type of occasion here and will be better off elsewhere. If the manager is reading this then I ask you, was it really worth losing hundreds or thousands of pounds worth of business over a fricking cake? Give yourself a tap on the back love.
Food was very delicious, with the portions significantly larger than what you'd expect for the price paid for the meals.
I had the mixed grill and asked for the steak to be cooked rare, and it was perfectly done.
Really fancied visiting this place and taking my son for a birthday meal, i checked the website to see if a booking was required and found nothing on there so I then tried to call them but no answer.
So When I arrived at 17:00 travelling 20 miles thinking all was good I was then asked if I had a booking, which I replied how do I do that as there is no way of booking on your website.
I was very peeved off but luckily received a better service in the Railway in Nelson where I was seated
So no apologies or information on how to book in future and your reply our number is everywhere? obviously not.
A local pub for locals good luck.
This restaurant is outstanding. The steak was cooked to perfection. No starters but you couldn't eat 3 courses. Menu is limited because what they actually do serve is beautiful and cooked fresh. Parking is a little limited but was OK. Very reasonable prices
Unfriendly and weird place||Didn’t want customers||Rude staff and empty room||Wonder why ?||Cash only ||Waited 10 minutes to say we were not welcome||Bookings only yet sign outside saying come in for lovely food||Maybe they don’t like customers who require wheel chairs ||We will never know||Suggested they remove the welcoming board outside that advertised to come in for lovely food but didn’t seem to understand why this would be helpful if it was bookings only mmmmmm||Went to a really lovely welcoming pub in Cardiff instead and restored our faith in humanity.||Letting down Merthyr!
Went there for valentine's day with my fiancé. It was lovely service and quick. Staff very friendly.
Cash only. ATM is opposite the pub.
