Lovely Olde quirky place. Really welcoming pub, 2 large wood burners. the owners and their staff are so friendly. We had food and overnight stay. Really comfy bed and well equipped room, nice and warm. Just sad that the owners are moving on ????
This was our first visit. We had booked for Sunday lunch. On entering we were greeted by whom I suspect was the manager who was very pleasant and welcoming. The lunch menu was traditional with roast beef with all the trimmings or a chicken or vegetarian option. My wife and I had a starters. I had the potato and leek soup (delicious) and my wife had the lightly coated fried squid (again, delicious). For the main course we both chose the roast beef and this was top class with the variety of root vegetables and sweet snapper peas. The Yorkshire pudding was one of the best I have experienced. The roasted potatoes were also very good. A relatively small selection of desserts- apple crumble; sticky toffee pudding; eton mess or baileys cream brûlée. We both chose the apple crumble. Overall a lovely meal. However our experience was spoilt when we came to pay the bill. None of the staff appeared to want to come and take my credit card payment. We had to ask three times but we were ignored; we waited and waited for almost 20 minutes until I became somewhat annoyed and I went to the bar to speak to a member of the bar staff and ask him if he would facilitate me paying. I explained why - he made no apology. Sadly the manager had left the restaurant earlier whilst we were finishing our dessert, otherwise I am sure she would not have allowed this to happen.
Ate here after a long walk with my girlfriend. Superb food and amazing service, would highly recommend! Make sure you ask Warren for suggestions as the stew was spot on, perfect after a long walk. Holly had the fish and chips, lovely fresh fish and fluffy chips with homemade tartar sauce. Castle Acre and the Ostrich are definitely worth a visit
Reviews are difficult to parse with inn and restaurant in same location. This is for restaurant. First, super cute. Menu regularly changes, have been around probably 4 times across seasons and they always have something fun/new. I often wish I had been there a previous week for some special menu they had done! Beer list too limited. Service is always nice. Has a good locals following (only game in town). Food though is often below expected. Small things like salad not having dressing. The value is not great, price doesn’t match the execution. Still an essential for Castle Acre. Stop by after exploring priory ruins.
Family lunch for 13 + toddler + 3 dogs. We sent menu choices ahead as there were so many of us, but were invited to swap for specials if we wanted. Nice touch.|Parking in their car park, was helpful as it can get busy out front.|It was the first time I'd eaten there, the pub was welcoming. Beautiful pictures on the walls and characterful decor. Comfy sofas were great for the older bones to rest on before and after eating. Food was delicious and obviously freshly made. Service was efficient and friendly. They double checked our allergies before preparing. Guten free options available. A perfect venue for a family gathering. So nice for dogs to be welcomed throughout.|Thank you, we'll be back.
We popped in to see if there were any vegetarian gluten free options for lunch, in between visiting the priory and the castle. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Not only was there something gf and vegetarian but there was a choice of things!
Lovely old pub which sits in the middle of the village. Friendly staff, good selection of draught beers and tasty food. Ample parking, plenty of seating both inside & out. Great visit.
I stayed at this pub last week - lovely location, very friendly staff. My room was well presented and quiet, however, the bathroom had a Sanilav system and was not only very noisy but also smelt very unpleasant all of the time. Food was ok but very limited menu - wine list looked varied but apparently stock was low, so little availability. Croissant in the morning was served cold. Things could be made so much better - such a shame as people won't want to return with these standards.
