I have been coming here more than a year due to its location and the quality has never improved. The flavors I usually get end up being bland, especially for my go-to at any store, Thai tea. Today it was a far darker orange than usual. I have experience in food service making this particular drink, and I knew at first glance it would taste off. Again it was watery, bland, and this time also over-steeped (making it bitter). Considering how they don't let you adjust the sugar level of this drink, this was the final straw and I have given up on this place. The lackluster quality of many milk teas I have tried here have made me wonder if the employees have tasted the tea they make. For such a good location and college student customer base, I've hoped again and again that their drinks would be better to no avail. Would recommend any other milk tea place in a heartbeat over this.
I have never had any problems here, there food is delicious! But today I had ordered some boba and food. It said it would take 10 minutes, so a bit more than 10 minutes later i went in and the drinks weren't even made. I had to wait like 10 minutes longer and then they finally made the drinks. I didn't really look at my drink much, but I also Didn't taste any boba. Then when I got home I noticed there was NO boba. I paid extra money for what?! I'm really annoyed with this.
This place has really gone downhill since the new ownership some years back. They used to be open late, they had cool new drinks from time to time. When I was a freshman I came here all the time. I walked in today to get my regular order and apparently they do not make them after 11pm. The food is different, the drinks are different, it is barely the same place anymore. This was likely the last time I go here.
This place has been around for a long time and is still good! I ordered my drinks with 25% sweetness. It wasn't too sweet and didn't taste watery either. Just right, and still had the taste of tea. It's very refreshing on a hot day. The crispy chicken was in bite size pieces but still had meat in them, without too much fried batter. I would come back again next time I'm in the area.
The food is not the best, I personally only come here when I’m desperate and everywhere else is closed. The food is often very dry or way too salty (the pork belly). The green beans taste inedible and super stiff. The Thai tea is meh (even Cuarto Market has better Thai tea). The customer service is hit or miss, I still can’t forget this one time when I walked to the cashier and they told me to use the kiosk to order when there were no customers in the store and when I was finished a customer came in and they were allowed to order right at the cashier (sorry for the rant ????). Anyways T.L.D.R. don’t come here the food and boba are below average and way too expensive. I personally like the Hawaiian place next door.
The OLD tea house is a good description, every drink tastes like it was made yesterday. Got served raw chicken and went through food poisoning. Wouldn’t pay $15 for food poisoning.
My 12 year old daughter has been refused service twice for trying to use cash here. She loves boba, and this place is conveniently close for her to go to on her own. I understand that private businesses don't have to accept cash, but at the same time, how do you refuse cash from a child who is clearly so hopeful to spend her only money on tea? She comes home in tears confused as to why her money is unexceptionable at some places and not others. Her understanding of cash is that you buy things with it. Now she is nervous about using her cash anywhere. The tea is good, hence the second star.
Old Teahouse - Their affordable prices and delicious food made me come to this place over and over again. You must try their popcorn chicken and milk green tea; so good! Absolutely adore their eggplant tofu curry that comes with rice.
This place is normally crowded, so don't be surprised if you find yourself standing in a long line that extends outside the restaurant. The service is super fast, so the line moves pretty quickly. They accept only cash; after you place your order, they give you the receipt which has the order #. When your order # gets called, you need to pick up your food.
I like their indoor seating; there are a few sofas that are comfortable and relaxing. If the place is way too crowded, then it is just better to get a to-go.
