As a German I know how Bratwurst should taste like. Unfortunately, the Bratwurst didn’t meet my expectations at all. I am pretty sure they are selling white sausage (Bavarian breakfast) as their Bratwurst. That means wrong sausage for that dish and wrong cooking (in a hot dog warmer). Tried to get a refund, was not possible. Wouldn’t recommend going here.
When this deli opened up say 10 years ago, it was owned by a German couple who made great sandwiches but seemed to be a bit ticked, not as welcoming as they should be IMO. Now, the deli is opened by a very nice guy and the staff are excellent. Same great food, amazing German beer selection, prices that are still very reasonable for the amount of food you get and quick service. If you get a sandwich deal (with pickle, tomato, egg & homemade potato salad) you'll KNOW you got a good deal after you have to switch your arms from carrying your lunch to your car! Lots of food, high quality, great price....you can't go wrong!!
10/10. Highly recommend!!
Best stop and sandwich in downtown Big Bear. The food is awesome and the folks that work here make you feel at home. It’s a cozy escape if you’re looking for quality food and quality comfort. Ditch the busy restaurants that serve mediocre food and come to this spot if you’re wanting food that is worthwhile!
This is our first time trying the sausage and the food is delicious! I really meant it. The sausage along with bread and smashed potato are delightful, fresh made, and absolutely tasty! As for the smashed potato, I'm not a very big fan everytime I had that thing on my plate but their smashed potato is so delicious. I can't believe I would enjoy them one day. ???? The staff is nice and overall experience is excellent!
Like a lot of people that reviewed we saw the line for the place across the street and it was too long so we tried this place out. So glad we did, I got the cheddar wurst with potato salad and sauerkraut. First the potato salad was incredible and I am not usually a fan. The meat link was amazing but the sauerkraut stole the show. It’s really mellow and a prefect compliment to not only the brat but the potato salad as well since there are bits of sausage in it. Really a hidden gem and do yourself a favor and check it out.
For vegetarians, the Beyond sausage brat was delicious. The cashier informed me that the potato salad contained meat so I went with the salad which was great. The mini shop and the beer options were awesome and there was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
Wunderbar! No line at the ‘poke place’ but wanted German cuisine as suggested by good folks in line for ice cream the day before.
Had two sausage plate while my wife had the Beyond sausage. Great. Loved the potato salad, had sausage in it, sauerkraut was hot which was a surprise and a nice Pilsner. The bread was soft and tasty.
Definitely a five star meal! Paul, will try that poke place the next time… ????
We decided to try this place out when all the nearby eateries were packed. So glad we did!
They have at least 6 different sausages you can pick from to have as a combo which comes with a deliciously soft pretzel bun, sauerkraut, and a side.
We preferred the more flavorful Polish Kielbasa over the Veal Sausage. A friend enjoyed the Cheddar sausage though commentef cheese flavor was mild.
They also have beers, dessert pies, bread loaves and other various European/German foods at the deli.
They have limited tables and 2 long bar counters to sit at.
