Best KPortal Reviews
This was hands down the best experience I have ever had at a hotel. We got married on April 12, 2024. We stayed at this hotel, along with our family and friends, from 4/11/2024 to 4/14/2024. I am SO glad that we chose Hotel Edition on Madison Ave. ||The customer service is impeccable. Their entire team is sooo professional here. They went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and memorable. First-class here, and they make you feel like royalty.||The rooms are also so nice, and I loved the shower & bath. The bed was so comfy, too. ||Also, they gifted us robes with monogrammed Mr. and Mrs. on them, which I attached a photo of with this review. It shows they go the extra mile for people, and it meant a lot to us.||We love the housekeeping, valet, and all staff we interacted with. Willy, Diego, and Juan were so helpful and friendly throughout our stay.||After the experience we had with them, we plan to use this hotel whenever we want a staycation and a few nights away! We can’t wait to go back.
We just stayed at the Edition, and it's OK. It's chic in its austerity, with a black/white/beige color scheme, with generously proportioned spaces. We arrived at 5pm (4pm is check-in), and we waited 20 minutes for our room to be ready. I've given up on the idea that I will ever be upgraded at a Marriott hotel in NYC as a Platinum Elite member so I wasn't disappointed when it didn't happen. We got to the room and the otherwise polite receptionist had not coded our keys correctly, so we couldn't get in initially. Housekeeping let us in.||Pros:|-Location is great. We used to live in NYC and like that area of town, and subways are convenient to get.|-Our room was comfortable enough for a night, not small, and the bed was comfortable.|-A/C was good.|-Despite facing Madison Square and 23rd street, we heard barely any noise.|-The staff is polite. Not warm, but polite. ||Cons:|-The destination fee is rude for a room of that cost. Our receptionist invited us to have a drink in the bar after we waited 20 minutes for our room in the lobby with our bags. I thought it was a comp for our having to wait, but he handed us a card explaining that we had already paid for the drinks with our destination fee - so, it's a bit of a false invite. Not his fault, it's just a rude policy that will prevent my returning. Presenting an invite for additional hospitality you have no choice but to pay for isn't really hospitality.|-Tea or coffee in the room would have been nice.||There was a article in the NYT recently quoting a sommelier as saying that working in a restaurant used to be mostly about hospitality, but now it's mostly about sales. I left the Edition feeling that her sentiment must be relevant in hotels, too.
First, while the service itself is acceptable, it is exceedingly slow. The issue isn't with the staff at the Edition hotel—they are simply understaffed. Despite the hotel being consistently busy every night, leadership has chosen not to address this by hiring additional staff. As a result, the service speed is below the standard expected of a three-star hotel: it takes 10 minutes on hold to reach an operator, 2 hours to have slippers delivered to the room, and 1 hour to get laundry service.||||Another example of the slow service: we were promised a small gift for a special occasion at 2 PM, but it didn't arrive until midnight. Even after reminding them, it took another hour to receive the gift, which consisted of a casually plated wine and cheeseboard that appeared messy. ||||Additionally, the Nightly Upgrade Award (NUA) was denied despite many suite categories still being available online. We felt deceived as the hotel repeatedly avoided answering why the NUA didn't clear even though suites were available. It seemed like a tactic to lure more bookings.||||The destination fee is also a scam. It claims to offer a $125 value but has many caveats:||1. The $40 laundry credit is only applicable for same-day service if received by 9:30 AM and is only valid until midnight. This means if you're staying for one night, you effectively have no laundry credit.||2. The $35 bar credit can only be used at the lobby bar, which only offers light bites after 2 PM and breakfast starting at 9 AM the next day. Like the laundry credit, the bar credit is only valid until midnight, so it cannot be applied to breakfast, and one cocktail in the bar costs $26+ tax.||3. The $50 spa credit is impractical as the spa offers nothing under $200, and with a busy hotel, you're likely to get your room after 3 PM or later.||||Overall, this fee is a scam and violates Marriott's policy on destination fees, as it doesn't provide more than $35 in value and is a trap for customers.||||On a positive note, the bar service is amazing, and the housekeeping, bellmen, and front desk agents are all great. However, the hotel desperately needs more staff to meet the Edition brand standards. We are disappointed with our choice to stay here for the graduation.
Busy front desk - we arrived at 5 and had plans at 6 - were told we had to wait for a room. They got the room quickly - lots of people were waiting but at the rate for the hotel and that the reservation should start at 4 - I don’t really find this acceptable. Flatiron is a great area to stay.
I'm a native New Yorker who moved out of state a few years ago. I spent the night here to enjoy the city on my way to visit family in Queens.||PROS: | - very friendly staff. Everyone was super helpful and pleasant| - nice lobby bar to relax in| - location is perfect - so close, or a short train ride away, from everything tourists would want to see, or returning New Yorkers would want to check-ou.| - clean rooms with minimalist furniture. however, i loved to large desk in the room - very helpful to dump your stuff on top of, or work remotely.||CONS:| - no bathtub - not a big deal, unless you hope to take a soak| - mandatory $35 "destination fee" - you HAVE to use it at the bar or spa the night you stay, otherwise you lose it. I would have liked to be able to use it for room service, but that's not allowed.
Fine hotel. Would not rate it 5 star. Definitely a step below the other 5 star hotels in manhattan. Some things could be better. Location is great though.
What an amazing team. They went above and beyond to make our stay outstanding. From providing a freezer for a pumping mom, to making sure snacks and drinks were gluten free. Justin and his team were outstanding. We also asked for help getting reservations and not only did the concierge call a restaurant for us, they partnered with their other location to help us with dinner. I will absolutely be staying here for my next visit. They've set the bar extremely high. Plus thei hotel's signiture scent smells great without killing my allergies.
Could it be worse? Probably. Should it cost $100 instead of $700? Absolutely. Nothing super offensive happened, but I feel like I'm at a Holiday Inn Express. Room never gets cleaned, they are out of every minibar item somehow, sheets and towels tattered and ripped, negative attitude from most employees. I hate Marriott.
