A last minute booking for a Saturday night meal and wasn't disappointed. Food was well presented and delicious, and we did not have to wait long after ordering. Staff were very polite, professional and friendly. Will definitely be back! Highly recommended.
Had two meals there the chicken tasted like onion badji and the chips were fairly basic.
The Sunday lunch menu is alright its cool that they offer different menus however the portion size was perhaps a little small for me. The manager/owner was walking around with his belt undone being slobbish, which i thought was quite unprofessional and one staff member didn't know how to make coffee and didn't provide milk or sugar until I ask which was surprising and perhaps a testiment to the owners judgement. I don't seem to have noticed any disabled access either unless they have to go through the beer garden/smoking area which could be improved.
Fabulous lunch today. Braised brisket of beef was perfect as was the Guinness. Loved talking to the locals they were so nice. The person who served us went the extra mile. Wordsoup on the quiz machine. Great day thanks team.
Very unwelcoming male toilets leaking across corridor into bar area. Bar area dirty unkempt.floor in bar sticky under foot.lager flat , ale cloudy and undrinkable we left our drinks and went elsewhere as bartender very unwelcoming and refused to serve us a coke for our son ??? Pallet wood on walls in bar seems a bit low for a hotel building bar. Only good part was a very friendly smiley waitress with red hair lovely girl. For a Saturday night the place was dead. Not surprised with welcome we had.
Stayed over for a night visiting family. Room 1 was great and definitely surpassed expectations. Great size, really well equipped, decor was great, beds incredibly comfy and good breakfast in the morning. Highly recommended and look forward to staying again soon .
We went here as we had a voucher to use from the currently closed sister venue, The Sun. 3 of us were booked in for Sunday lunch. On entering the building we weren’t sure which way we should go, no one was around. We went in to the bar and found 3 staff and a very quiet dining area. We booked in and ordered drinks and were shown to our table with menus. It was a pretty basic but acceptable choice of starters , main course and desserts. We all had prawn cocktails, which were ok but presentation left a lot to be desired. I had to go to the bar to ask if we could order food, this after a waiter had taken orders off another couple who arrived after us! Eventually 2 of us ordered beef, which was extremely overcooked and was dry. I had turkey which reminded me of the mass produced slices you get on corporate Christmas dinners. The veg was tough and lacked flavour. I had to disturb the chattering bar staff to order more drinks during our meal. The desserts were ok but nothing wonderful. We were glad we had a voucher to use as we felt very cheated out of a nice Sunday lunch - I could cook better myself! We expect a bit more effort not a no frills offering. Don’t think we’ll be back…..
Booked in for Sunday lunch. Been there years ago and have to say the refurbishment and I think, new management, has done this place a power of good - light and airy as opposed to dark, and dismal . The staff were polite and friendly. Sadly, these 'positives' did not make up for the below par food. The prawn cocktail starter was a (fairly generous portion of prawns on a large lettuce leaf (no slice of lemon, although I saw other tables being served the same dish with lemon) and a round of very stale bread. For the main course, I asked for well done Beef - it was certainly that!!!! 'Cremated' would have been a better description. It looked as though they had taken a blow torch to it! Whilst I like my veg firm, I take the exception to cabbage that takes quite a lot of effort to chew through. The wine (supposedly a Pinot Grigio) was vinegary although it was £7. 32 a glass!!! It was very disappointed . We are always on the look out for good eateries to take our visiting family, but sadly, we won't be going back.
We weren't expecting much, especially given the very reasonable prices, but I had the best chicken burger and chips ever. A lovely, spicy, almost 'stuffing-like' crumb coated the very moist (perfectly cooked) chicken. The chips were darker than I'd have expected, but were spot-on and delicious - a nice coleslaw too. Beer was pretty good too. Well worth the visit. If only the pubs down our way could do such good food at those Welsh prices!
