The Larder is a charming, welcoming, and tasty cafe on Magdalen Rd. With steep competition from existing coffee and Café options in the area, The Larder differentiates itself with its chef-depth sandwiches, combination of flavors, and quality of ingredients.
The flavors, textures, and varieties of the menu highlight the breadth of the options. The attached pictures highlight an avocado / scrambled egg toast which was delicious with balanced flavors, a hot chocolate, cappucino, Nutella stuffed pancakes, and a chicken sandwich option (not pictured).
Some notes on our food:
- the hot chocolates vary in "chocolate-y-ness" so please ask for a recommendation!
- the Nutella stuffed pancakes are BRILLIANT. A must try.
- the sandwiches are made with bread from a local baker
- great customizability if substitutions, vegetarian, or other dietary preferences are required
The atmosphere and the decor were beautiful and minimal. This is a great spot to meet for a coffee conversation or sit for a few hours to work on a project!

On previous visits I had looked at sandwich choices and thought they were overpriced, but after trying the brisket focaccia sandwich, I take it back. Good quality food, presented well and tasted delicious. The biriya sauce to dip in to was divine..just the right amount of chilli heat to compliment the sandwich perfectly. Bravo The Larder, and compliments to the smiley front of house team and the chefs preparing the food ????????
Absolutely fabulous café and bakery, my new favourite spot in Oxford.
Drink was rich and flavourful, like no other hot chocolate I’ve had before. A wide selection of (vegan!) baked goods, savoury and sweet foods, as well as coffees, teas, hot chocolates, milkshakes, fresh juices and bottled drinks.
The fact that there’s free Wi-Fi, good lighting, plenty of seating and quiet music means this place is also great for studying, WFH or group meet-ups.
I had the best mocha and the atmosphere, interior, and exterior are amazing and beautiful. But unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend this to whoever wants to study as the WiFi connection is very poor.
Lovely place with good coffee. Better than Green routes or Missing Beans coffees. Not had food except for almond croissants which are good but could be better (4 ⭐️)

It’s a nice and cozy place to have your drink and sandwich. Sandwiches are really yummy. However, their coffee is way below average. I think they should change their coffee beans to better ones. My suggestion is that they can use coffee beans from Missing Bean, which is a few blocks away from the Larder. I give three star because of really disappointing coffee.
They offer a kashmiri chai latte which is stunning! I had never had one before and wanted to make it dirty but the nice man behind the till insisted I try it without the espresso first, so he gave me a separate double espresso shot for free to add to the latte as I please! Amazing service, will definitely come back again!
The best place in Oxford!!! No doubt! Fantastic sandwiches n hot drinks, oh don’t let me forget to mention the outstanding cakes n pastries. Just yummy!! Always a happy and friendly service especially Humza. Great guy !!! Keep up the lovely work
