Location & staff at this hotel are excellent but I felt it was overpriced as it is not a 4 or 5 star hotel! It could be much cleaner in some areas & would benefit from some maintenance, my shower leaked & the bathroom door did not close (room 3).
Having said that the bar area was well kept & all of the food we had was first class
We hadn't booked a table but they had space straight away. The food was lovely, especially the roast lamb, which was cooked to perfection and the roast potatoes weren't out of a packet. The portions were ample and all in all was good value for money. We will definitely be booking for next time we're in the area
This is the second time my mum and I have been here for lunch. It’s so cosy and warm inside and the lunch was delicious and well presented. We sat at a table looking out over the river. Service very good. Prices reflect quality of food. Will be back.
Beautiful food! Huge portions! Right in front of the harbour so it's lovely to sit outside and watch the world go by while enjoying a gorgeous meal.
The only thing that could be improved is that waitresses didn't really know anything about the menu and didn't know what they were bringing out. Other than that, great! ????
Bit difficult for parking c/o permit holders one way, or one hour parking the other. We parked in the Prominade Coach and Car park, this we learned with only 20 mins to return, it shuts at 2000hrs. The actual Prominade park itself shuts at 21.00hrs.
The venue itself, very welcoming beautiful lady with black long hair, serving us, very friendly. Young chef who helped serve our food, hot. Well mine was the fish and chips. Fish amazing, very fresh and well cooked. Chips bit big for my liking. Mushy peas and tartre sauce also not for me.
Would have loved a dessert but car park restrictions of closing time, scuppered that idea.
Look forward to returning, if we can sort car parking better. No obvious disabled parking near this venue we could see.
My partner had the cheese ploughmans, served with fresh bread slices and butter, which he loved, so recommended on his behalf.
First time in the Jolly Sailor after a recommendation from a friend and found a picturesque moon to greet us which was lovely over the Quay.
A nice fresh pint of Neck Oil to warm up the Cod and Chips. Terry had his usual muscles and were as good as he remembered.
All in all, glad we visited. Well fed, good drink and happy customers. Plus the moon was spectacular from this location ????
Went for lunch yesterday. Huge fish and chips, absolutely delicious, and hot to the last bite. Polite, friendly and attentive staff. Look forward to our next visit!!
Unfortunately cannot give less than one star.||Positive note is that staff were very friendly and breakfast was very good. ||Grade 2 listed building so they cannot change the odd room access and narrow stairs, but it could be clean and freshly painted which it certainly is not. ||Room 2 has a good view of the bay, but nothing else. Room is very small small. Cheaply painted white and where the white matt emulsion walls have been marked, they have been painted in patches with white silk, so this stands out and looks messy. Brackets on furniture and clothes rack in place to fasten to fittings to the walls have all pulled out of wall. Skirting board near "bathroom" fell off the wall and I had to push it back in place. Door lock stuck regularly.||"Bathroom is a partition wall box created in the original bedroom. "Bathroom" door handle old, and has large wood screw in the side of it holding it on. This sticks out by approx an inch and is a hazzard. Ceiling has been replaces and has been very cheaply artexed, so thinly that the plasterboard tape is visible through the artex. Bathroom wall behind cystern and also near toilet roll is dirty and there are brown streaks on door frame inside bathroom. Trim around base of shower is missing, and from floor to shower entry is plain bare wood with mastic on it that previously held a trim on. There is also a hole approx 30 cm long and 15 cms high in the shower base with bare pipes entering under the shower base and showing clear access under the floor. Did not want to use the shower as it has clearly seen better days. Grout was brown in many places. Toilet seat loose and moving when used.||Worst of all was black painted cupboards in bedroom with strips of paint missing and a mirror hooked to top cupboard door. When I opened the cupboards to store suitcases, they were full, from floor to ceiling with offcuts of plaster board, presumably from the ceiling, and also an old sink hand basin. Clearly the owner thinks so little of his guests that he couldn't even be bothered to get rid of this building rubble.||If we had had somewhere else to stay or the time to look for an alternative accomodation, then we would have. I did bring the condition of the room to the attention of the staff and they just said they know it was bad, and that they had told the owner many times, but he doesn't seem to care and won't spend anything to put it right. I was told that he makes his money from the pub and meals and the rooms are just a bit extra. I asked them to pass my comments on to him, but next day, when we were leaving, there had been no response. Staff were friendly, though I thought they were a bit demoralised. Breakfast is good, but you can go in and buy that on its own. ||Do not stay here no matter what.||Maldon is a beautiful town and I will go back, but not to this place.
