Come here often great service food is great overall would recommend
Had supper here in April 2019. Nice enough JW Lees pub, much better than it used to be and busy in the evenings which is a good sign. Food was good enough for the nice, I had a spicy veg curry which was reasonable. Beer garden at the rear and car park too, but mostly it's friendly locals. Guess they shift more food early evening as it was hard getting served and there was less focus on the beer. If you live in Hollins this is pretty much your only option, but it's better than most people get.
Basing this review over a number of different experiences. Decor is great which is why it’s got two stars rather than one. Food is okay ( ish ) which we would put up with if the atmosphere was nice and everything else was nice. However, We have had 4 or 5 separate experiences where we have found the landlady abrupt and rude. Very disappointing to be honest but our last experience means none of us will be going again. I’d rather spend my money in a restaurant or pub that appreciates their customers and makes them feel welcome and valued.
Had a catch up with friends on a Thursday evening. This was my first time at The Hollins Bush after years of driving past. There was ample parking to the rear of the pub accessed via the nearby flats residential car park. It is a really lovely little pub with a cosy atmosphere. The young man on the bar was friendly and quick to serve us, and regularly collected our empty glasses too. They have a small beer garden at the back which was lit with fairy lights and we have already said we will come back for in the warmer weather. Pity they don't do food or I think this would be a regular place for us to meet up, but I would still definitely recommend The Hollins Bush
Food was very lackluster in flavour and appearance. Small selection of ales too. The ales were to my liking though. Wouldn't rush back there but if I did find myself back there, I wouldn't order the food again. The onion rings looked good but just tasted of dirty fryer oil. The steak was cooked well but had zero flavour. No seasoning added post cooking and I wonder if any was added pre cooking either.
Tried to reserve a table for food,was told they don't do that and just to turn up,fair enough if that's how it works...however when we did turn up it was clear there was not going to be anywhere to sit any time soon apart from one large table twice the size of the one we would need and on the table was a little sign saying RESERVED. So it would seem that there's a two-tier booking system and I would rather go elsewhere than remain in that second tier.No idea if the food is any good as we left.shame really,150 yards from my house but never going back.
A good local hostelry. Pleasant staff and comfortable surroundings. The food is good home cooked fayre. Dog friendly. A nice place to meet and chat. Good atmosphere. Would go again.
We have been regular visitors for lunch, but no more. No longer do senior citizens deal, so we ordered from the main menu. No cheese & onion pie so made alternative choice. Salmon & prawn salad for 2 turned up with NO salmon. Was told that it was left on the side. 10 mins later it was returned with hot salmon, but guess what, most of the prawns had disappeared. More to come about chicken curry
