The owners of this hotel are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The hotel was in an ideal location for visiting family in the area. The breakfast was lovely and was a good start to the day and the evening meals we had were very good. The bedroom we had was small but adequate for our needs, it was quiet with a good view of the mountain behind the hotel and the bedroom was a good size with a bath with a shower over. The corridors are in need of decorating but that did not detract from our stay, will definitely return when in the area again. Bella enjoyed her stay too.
We have just returned from the Hendrewen Hotel and am so glad we found it. It's not a Premier Inn and doesn't claim to be, it is however full of Welsh welcome and if you want to open your curtains and see the Welsh mountains and waterfalls in the distance, ask for Room 2 and you won't be disappointed. The welcome from the locals is typical of our wonderful Valleys people and it was absolutely lovely. The rooms are clean, the breakfast is lovely and Rosie the dog is beautiful. Thank you Julie and Jim for a great stay - after smelling the roast beef cooking, I am only sorry we weren't there on a Sunday to enjoy it.
The biggest downside is it is not open to the public most of the week, like the night I stayed. It is good as I got an early night and it was lovely and quite. With it not being open it meant waiting nearly 5 minutes in the wind and rain outside to be let in. Once in, I was welcomed in and shown to my room. The two owners were very helpful and did what they could to make my stay relaxing. ||Once in the room and started to settle in, it was obvious the spiders had been busy. I have to say as busy as they have been from time to time at my own home, but for a hotel room to busy. Yes the room was tired, but the are times that a stay in hotel that has been run as it has for years without having to change is good and it helps us remember those halcyon days. (I apologies to the owner if my understanding of the history is wrong- This is purely my wandering thoughts on how it is being run with no actual fact {except for the spiders}) ||The bed was comfortable and was warm. The shower was perfectly fine to. The thing that did interest me was trying to fill the kettle in a sink that was only just bigger enough to get you hand() in. With no bath you couldn't turn to the bath tap. So it was ladling it in with the glass. I was just in one room, so I can't judge the whole place on one room, but for an overnight stop, great. For multiple nights, I wouldn't be convinced.||All in all I was there for the bed and I slept great so I was happy. I just wish it had an extra bit of spark of life into to it so it was open all week. I could see it as a really lovely community based pub there. If the community exists anymore
We booked this hotel as it was low cost and perfectly situated for our needs, we received a text message at about 1400 on the day we booked for, asking us what time we intended to arrive (odd we thought but replied immediately)... the hotel was locked upon arrival; we were told our text message wasn't received.||Once we'd organised ourselves; the problem was quickly rectified, we were shown to our room it was clean and nicely presented with tea and coffee and a TV. The owners were really, really lovely... they went out of there way to feed us; making me a lovely burger and chips, they were really attentive and super nice people.||It transpired they don't open the bar on Monday and Tuesday and we were in fact the only guest in the hotel.... we Loved it! apart from the little transgression upon our arrival the hospitality and location made up for it 10 fold. It really was like visiting family members and we recommend a walk about the local area, there are beautiful woodlands walks and our room faced a waterfall higher up in the valley.
The rooms are quite dusty. The beds smelt musty. The corners of the room had lots of mould, heating didn't work, was very cold.
They were very friendly and welcoming, and this place might be ok as a basic option if you aren't too bothered about the overall cleanliness of the room.
Like a guest house from the 70,s ||Wifi is a bit ropey and actually went down one night. ||We were only people here as it was off season. Felt like the shining! ||Owners super friendly and cool with guests with dogs.||No food available at the start of the week, but had no problem with bringing outside grub in. ||Brekkie was great and served fresh and hot .
I was put up here with my 4 children as my gas and electricity was condemned in my rented property and environmental services said it was to dangerous to stay. Jim and his wife in the hendrewen couldnt do enough for me and my girls and made us feel so welcome, rooms were very comfortable and cosy and very clean. Would definitely recommend.
A lovely friendly welcome in this pub at the top of the Rhondda Valley. A nice Sunday lunch with a good choice of meat at a good price The desserts are very nice too. The Chocolate fudge cake and the Apple pie I can recommend.
