The Helm served my child RAW chicken. She would have taken a bite of RAW chicken if I hadn’t noticed just in time, from across the table, that the meat under the breading was shiny and pale pink, not opaque. I sent it back, and they refried it without an apology, and the restaurant owner re-served it to me. When I suggest they do better next time, she laughed at me. No refund was offered. I am shocked that this place is so careless. Eat there at your own risk, literally. They don’t know how to prepare food, and they’re unprofessional and rude.
Had surf and turf --steak and fried shrimp. Steak was so tough it broke the knife. The scallops were good helping. The stuffed haddock was cold in the middle. They ran out of baked potatoes, but the mashed potatoes were OK. The salad bar was good and had a lot of options. The music was a bit loud and random selection of songs. The new exterior is updated but the inside looks the same.
Umm...no. I will not be going back. My seafood chowder was edible and the bread served with our food was ok. I can't even refer to our meals as dinner. The salmon was overcooked, greasy, and had this orange coating of premix "lemon pepper"seasoning. It looked as unappetizing as it was. Waitress replaced it with a hamburger, which was edible but still greasy. She was a bit curt, as well. After today's experience, this place is just a Nope. It's sad to see a restaurant that's been an icon of the area go downhill like this.
Disgusting and over priced! Charges 8.95 for a cup of bean and pasta soup and half of roast beef sandwich. I swear the soup tasted like vinegar and my half sandwich consisted of a slice of overcooked roast beef with nothing else on it except for a thin layer of mayo. Never asked me if I wanted anything on it. Just about everything at the salad bar tasted like vinegar as well. Gross
We had a birthday party of 20 i had stuffed haddock si2 did my husband. There was no sauce over it? It was just stuffed with beading no seafood what so ever, the out side was quite dry.then they give you to many plates, rather potato or rice, I think it shouldnt be in a seperate plate makes it looks like you dont have much and you really get to look at the size of you meal. Wonderful staff!! Prices are really nice for 2 stuffed haddock, was about $38.00 + tip.
The Helm in Rockport Maine after 50 years of eating there gave us raw chicken livers. We sent back to finish cooking and same pure red inside livers were brought back to both of us. On top of that after years of salad bar with meals they just add $4 charge instead of notifying customers. After 50 years will never return!
Ordered clam chowder, it arrived with hair in it. Clam strips were very undercooked. When I brought it to the server's attention, she had the kitchen dump my plate of strips and fries back into the fryalator. Served on a plate of oil. Check was not adjusted accordingly.
Love this place wonderful quality they have a salad bar and good service. Sorry to hear they will be closing after this season. I shall make it a point to go back a few more times this year.
