Growing up in the 80's my curls were a hindrance to being "cool". Then I met so many hair stylists that had varying degrees of knowledge with my type of hair. I'm so thankful to have found Carly! She has helped me so much over the past year to meet my personal goals with my hair! I am so in love with my curls today!
I had my first appointment with Olivia yesterday. I can’t even put into words how thankful I am to have met her. She was very kind, extremely knowledgeable and went above and beyond for my massive hair makeover! I have very long, thick and dark hair. She spent hours perfecting my dark to light balayage. I was comfortable, she offered me multiple snacks and drinks. I was in heaven being pampered for Mother’s Day! So after she dried and styled me completely she told me some parts of the color didn’t live up to her standards and she touched up the color RIGHT THEN AND THERE working late on her Saturday! She had to re wash, dry and style. All while smiling, laughing and signing some toons. Her work ethic is extremely impressive. I left that salon feeling sexy for the first time in years. I will only give my business to The Hair And Color Bar from now on. Thank you so much Olivia! Happy Mother’s Day :)
Got highlights and they were nowhere near my scalp. They looked already grown out. When I told my hairdresser, she made excuses and offered me an appointment during my work hours and said "I'll see what I can do". When I told her when I would be available, she said that there would already be "grow out" and I would have to pay for her to fix it.
My appt was on 5/11, that's 10 days ago.
I have been going to The Hair and Color Bar for years just for hair cuts (I don't color my hair). They have always done an amazing job. This last time, Bailey was my hairdresser and she did an amazing job. It's been a couple months since I got my cut and I still LOVE my hair. She was professional, kind, and gave me a beautiful cut in a timely manner. I dont get my hair cut that often, but I think I will always choose the Hair and Color Bar.
Love coming here! I drive up from Anchorage to see either Olivia or Naia. They absolutely crush it with something low maintenance for me while still brightening up my face layers. The salon is gorgeous and aesthetic.
I showed them a picture, said it would be 306, then she said well it’d be 350$. I said okay half way and through it wasn’t the picture at all, I wanted light ash color, my roots and all over my hair is spotty, orange, she told me I can come back in for another session. I asked if I needed to pay for the other session she said yes. I’ve never had a problem of getting light ash tone hair in my hair. I have a few pieces that are ash tone but mostly also very yellow and orange she said for the picture I want it’ll be 600$ after half way through it, I have orange, yellow, white, and red .The communication was not good. When I was upset she asked, “well do you just want me to take it out now?” After she already put bleach in it so I just went with it and I don’t want to be mean, I’ve never not been able get my hair to ash this is the first time it’s spotted and the colors is not even close what I asked for. After 377.20$ I’m left with chunky yellow, orange and ect tones, after I was already there they told me it would be in sessions to get what I want, but if I decided to cancel while I’m there, would that count as a cancellation and still have to pay 150$ cause it wasn’t a 24 hr notice? It’s spotted and 3 people have already told me it’s pretty orange/ yellow. I feel they should’ve told me (before I made the appointment) “it would be in sessions” not “yeah we can do it”. Then after tell me that after I made the appointment. It’s not even close to what I asked for. I asked for my natural roots to be showing and it’s spotted and only 3 stands are ash tone. This wasn’t even close to the picture. Also I wanted a lot of roots showing and ash tone blonde all of the bottom tips and it’s completely spotted I’m not happy with my hair. If they told me before the appointment I would’ve never made one now I’m stuck with reds to yellows to a few pieces ash zone.
The hair and color bar did an amazing job styling my hair for an event. The style held up for the whole night and Olivia made my hair look so beautiful. Thank you.
I'd do 3.5 stars if I could. I really should have done a consultation first as I feel I was not on the same page as the stylist Stephanie (who was moderately friendly but I didn't really click with). I moved up here last year and for the last 2.5 years I've had my natural dark brown roots ombre style faded into a bright red on bottom (my goal is to go 6 months between appointments without it looking weird), so despite not knowing much hair terminology, I have pictures of what I want it to look like. I may have to call my lower 48 salon to beg for the correct description and what they used because this is the second salon to be off the mark up here.
We did have a discussion at the beginning and I probably should have pulled out when the colors she showed me didn't seem as bright as I've gotten my hair even without bleach. I thought it was apparent that I had solid red on the bottom but she did a full highlight and I didn't realize until she quit foiling that she wasn't going to do all my hair but I chose to trust the process. She asked about it being higher in the front from the picture, which is true but she went high all across (b/c of doing a highlight and not really what I'd call a ombre fade).
The biggest thing for me is that they went $50 over my budget without a word to me before I went to pay. I filled out the questionnaire which included my budget of $250 (which is what I paid at the first salon I went to up here for cut and color, and what I paid for a cut/color/maintenance products at my lower 48 salon). The highlight cost $240 and I understand with my hair about 4 inches longer than when I usually get it done and she went high all the way across I needed extra dye which they charged $48 (which they did say they charged the way they did so it was lower than usual). It was a bit jarring to have to have the total be around what I expected to pay after tip.
Overall, the color isn't really near what I wanted, it was not applied the way I wanted, and felt their price was high for what I got. I'm not likely to come back and I might give up on my dyed hair if I cannot find someone in the valley or Anchorage able to do what I want with it.
