Very cheery and enthusiastic bar lady, but otherwise the good was pretty average. Vege burger very basic and overpriced got what you get. The lamb shank wasn't very meaty, the mash was dry and the broccoli was pretty much raw. We were there on Saturday at 1pm and were the only ones there.
Nice country pub, recently under new management, has some accommodation and a small resteraunt with a limited but nice menu. Bar and resteraunt have wood burners. Pet friendly ! Owners and staff are very welcoming. Well worth a visit.
Wow! This was unexpected! Remember when you used to have a proper local! This is it. Great drinks and beer and the restaurant is pleasant and we'll decorated with a huge fire place. The menu is straight from the 80's / 90's. Not a criticism because it was priced about the same. Honest food with more than a fair price. Scampi, pie, proper burgers (no stupid brioche to fall apart). Such a find because we ate for under 21 quid! No complaints at all. If you want to pay a fortune for little helpings and fancy foods it's probably not your thing. But for a family meal of simple dishes well cooked you will love the place. Made me miss my youth a bit, I'd forgotten what a real local was like (there's so few left now it's all gastro pubs and charging over 25 quid for a main. Don't get me wrong we will still enjoy both but it's nice to have something simple (I smile at the thought of a prawn cocktail at this point) . We will be back with the kids next time.
Visited two years in a row for an overnight stay. Excellent rooms (some low doors, but I am 6"4')
Beds are very comfy, staff are very friendly.
Both dinner and breakfast were excellent.
Absolutely lovely food and drink, wonderful staff (especially Miranda the Landlady!). A great, friendly atmosphere, and a wonderful place to spend an evening. It was a quiet evening, as we were in on a Monday night, but that was perfect for us.
Totally recommened!
Me and my Fiancee went there as we were staying locally in the Satis House.
We went for the Griffin for just a drink, but because of its lovely warm atmosphere we stayed there for dinner and dessert.
The manager and staff were so friendly and helpful.
All food homemade and fresh.
What a lovely lasagne that was.
I would recommend...
We had a lovely long weekend at the Griffin. The room was cosy, the bed super comfortable and the breakfast great.
Miranda and her team were so welcoming and the locals super friendly.
I would recommend a visit.
Thank you.
Carvery today the worst I've ever had. Meat fine but vegetables, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding etc all cold, bland and flavourless. Don't waste your money. Beer good though.
