Stayed for one (Saturday) night while on a hill navigation course locally.
No water, then no hot water, in my and apparently everyone's rooms - the pub had to close because of this. There were only 6 hotel rooms, yet the manager/staff in charge couldn't let us all know that this was going on, literally just after we checked in.
When reported to them, staff response was "it's not our fault" and "we have a call out to get it fixed" - nothing about apology to guests, offer of refund/compensation.
So we couldn't eat at the hotel/pub as planned either - and because the very large pub had suddenly closed, the curry house and chip shop nearby were completely rammed with people.
I also couldn't shut the window in my bedroom, as the catch was broken and there was a plastic tab attached to stop it opening too far which also stopped it closing without the catch working. So pretty chilly.
Another female friend was put in a room that was an annex on its own in a courtyard, not attached to the hotel at all - and there seemed little comprehension that this might not feel safe.
Next morning, we asked for complimentary breakfast after not having water the night before - this wasn't offered but the bar staff agreed.
The cooked breakfasts were all barely warm, which was pretty gross but we'd given up asking/expecting good customer service at this point so we ate and left.
Would not recommend this place at all. Find somewhere else to stay if you're in the area.
Also, as a final element of thoughtlessness in the place - there were framed pictures in the hotel rooms, which were drawings from local school children - a very sweet connection to the locality, except they had the full names and school locations written under the pictures. Clearly no-one has heard of safeguarding here...
We called in for a restful drink after a day of shopping. A busy inn was staffed by efficient and friendly staff. Nice seating areas for both diners and drinkers. We chose to sit in the pleasant beer garden, enjoyed our drinks and the little bit of sun. Very clean toilets, well priced drinks and a comprehensive menu for diners. This inn offers accomodation too. There is no parking at the premises, but a pay carpark is nearby. Situated in the town center it's great for shopping, sightseers etc.
We had a lovely meal at The George in the evening which was served quickly and was piping hot and delicious.
We returned the next morning for breakfast and again both service and cooked meal were excellent.
Staff were helpful and friendly although very busy with customers.
The hotel is spacious and clean with a lovely conservatory dining space at the rear too.
Foods nice. Place is convinent from parking and the services are clean and tidy. It's got to be said it will be the 3rd time now I've had to argue with staff when it comes to a food order. The menu says certain foods come with certain extras, yet the till staff will argue till their blue in the face that the food I'm ordering doesnt come with the listed extras and try to charge. But on the whole, a lovely place.
Nice hotel ,great room no 2 ,let down by noisy gurgling air con unit which kept making weird noises virtually all the time
Even though it was switched off
Well equipped room with lovely walk in shower, staff were friendly and quality of food ok
I had to send breakfast back one day as it was cold, plates not as hot as other spoons
not cheap though at £ 93 a night
Brecon Hotel is about same price with breakfast and free parking
Unbelievable really the price of a meal and a pint. Fish and chips night. Fish was so hot crispy and fresh. I had it 2 nights running. Naughty me. Large building but cosy as well. Highly recommend a visit.
Mixed feelings about our stay this week. We stayed two nights, midweek.
We felt that the room was good value for money. It was clean, big enough, with a modern bathroom and a good shower. The carpet was a little threadbare, but the air conditioning/ heating worked and it was quiet so we got a good night's sleep.
The service in the Wetherspoon's attached was mainly poor. We were welcomed in a very friendly way on arrival but that first impression didn't last. There seemed a real inability for any of the team to smile when engaging with customers and it all felt that it was just a little bit too much like hard work, especially for the man that served on the bar on the first evening we were there. He short measured a glass of wine and when he was asked to correct this, responded with an exaggerated and seemingly sarcastic display of checking the level of the drink.
We felt that a couple of the team simply didn't like their jobs and that came through in their attitude.
We had two breakfasts and a main meal during our stay. One of the breakfasts was very good. However, the other breakfast and the curry main meal we had were served cold. There's no excuse for not being able to keep food hot but this was beyond this Wetherspoon's on two occasions. When we fed this back we did receive an apology and a promise to tell the kitchen.
This was so nearly a good visit, given how satisfied we were with the room, however the service and the quality of the food spoiled the overall impression.
Brilliant location and pub, with rooms, (I only visited for lunch). What a complete disaster, one does not expect Michelin Star quality food at Wetherspoons, but you get adequate (most of the time).
This visit to a Wetherspoons was far from the above, the entire experience was very poor.
Upon arrival, there was not a single clear table at which to sit, this is a large pub and the of lack clear tables did not bode well.
There was a massive line at the bar, one person (some type of duty manager) was serving, they were clearly under staffed.
Eventually, we were able to order and request that our table was cleared of the detritus deposited by previous guests.
Our food was delivered by said duty manager, I was one of a party of 4, two people had steak and did not eat it, two people had the all day breakfast and did not eat it.
The food was terrible, if it is busy here, do not eat here!
