Visited the duck egg bakery today with my two children. They had a trolley full of arts & crafts for the children which I did think was a really nice touch.
However upon entering I did notice how filthy the place was. Everything needed taking out and scrubbing within an inch of its life. This wasn’t just the floors were full of food from previous customers the floors were mucky & so were the walls/plugs etc.
the case the buns were in was also quite dirty.
I also did think the options for children were quite limited. I asked for egg for my daughter and it got sent scrambled even though we did want fried. But we was never actually asked how we wanted it and I didn’t state I just presumed it would be fried. It should be specified that it’s scrambled.
The lady who were taking orders etc seemed confused. I asked a few questions to which her reply was “I don’t know”.
The food when it did come was actually nice & was well put together. However the cleanliness did put me off returning. It doesn’t take long to ensure a small room like the sitting room was is clean and hygienic.
We ate and paid and was off. I would deffo have returned had it been cleaner.
My friend Janet and I spent 2 hours at the Duck Egg Tea Rooms yesterday. We had a lovely time, the food was amazing & such good value. The staff were very helpful & friendly. We are definitely going back, infact we have made a date for next month.
Had a lovely afternoon tea here with my husband and in-laws. I really like the attention to detail with the decor - little touches like the feather wallpaper on one wall and the salt/pepper shakers. My MiL was able to swap tea for an Americano and my FiL got a fancy lemonade instead at no extra charge. I really like that you can pick your sandwich and cake. All the cakes are made there and are really delicious and cute! There were mini-battenberg slices on top of the battenberg blondie and my husband was very excited to get a Cookie Monster cupcake. Very affordable and most of us couldn’t finish, so generous portion. The owner is very sweet and helpful. Would absolutely recommend.
It's so nice to have this tea room a short walk away I normally have a scone and a milkshake (a proper one not just milk and powder mixed)and it is delicious.
I have co hosted a leaving party here also we all had afternoon tea some of us had to take some home as we where full in a takeaway box that was provided. We could put our own decorations up and nothing was to much trouble.
It is where I get my husband's presents from he now asks me for it a selection of cupcakes, brownies and blondies. Nice and cosy seating or you can take out.
Nikki (the owner) has clip on highchair seats and a draw of toy's and books to keep kids entertained.
After seeing all your photos on Facebook,we were very disappointed in what you had to offer.nothing was like the sights and the cafe was very run down, we ate our ham sandwichs and got out of there as fast as we could. So let down and not to our standard.
Lovely little cafe with excellent menu full of quality homemade goodness.
Hunter chicken toastie was delicious and Spice Pumpkin Cake is now my fav ????.
Friendly service.
Lovely tea room with wonderful service and relaxed atmosphere. We enjoyed our breakfast sandwiches and drinks.
Great service and kind staff, fantastic menu with quality homemade cakes!
Will definitely be returning!
