Superb village/community/family inn/pub - great family atmosphere, incredibly friendly and helpful staff (from owner Alison and daughter Rachel, Mandy the chef, Sammy (housekeeping), Sid, and all the others. Food good, great value all round - we will be back again.
Note that there are stairs or steps to get anywhere - mobility-challenged guests (which we are) are helped by the team whenever necessary!
A great overnight stay with two days of walking. No food served on Saturday nights, but proprietor allowed us to bring in fish n chips!
Very friendly and exceptionally dog friendly. Great breakfast.
Stayed here for a wedding. The staff were so welcoming and served us a wonderful breakfast.
My room was lovely, nice touch with the mini fridge with milk and water. Had a lovely view over the beer garden.
I will definitely be back.
Stayed here for 2 nights to attend a wedding at The Forbidden Corner. Very comfortable stay. Emma and her team were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Had the full English breakfast which was very tasty. Beautiful part of the ||world. Loved watching the racehorses trotting through the town on their way to the gallops for their daily exercise.
The room was small...but it is a very old building so, understandable. We had an en suite bedroom, nice and clean, with a good selection of tea and coffee available. Breakfast (for us!) was vegan & very enjoyable. Overall, a good break...
Great atmosphere, very friendly family vibe.
To all extents a pub stay - but this is so much more. This old atmospheric inn is run by a lovely family who can't do enough for you. The rooms are big by 1800s standard, found by traversing labyrinthine corridors and stairs ! but apart from a bed really what more do you need? Very clean, amazing amenities - all bathroom bits, and enough tea varieties to make you need the large kettle provided. Bed very comfy, lovely fluffy topper if needed and hot bottle if you're there in winter!! We had back room overlooking the garden which was delightful, what with tortoises and puppy - just adds to the family feel this place gives. Breakfast was plentiful, hot and delicious. Centrally located the castle is just out the back gate, Forbidden Corner 2 miles and lovely waterfalls/river walks nearby.
The first thing that Dante Arms (Emma) asked me when I arrived was a query about my arriving earlier than announced. Other than that interaction, the staff was polite and helpful. The accommodations at Dante were exceptionally good for such a small hotel in a small town. Yes, the Dante is very old with beamed ceilings but that is the charm of a small country hotel. The room rates are especially good. || || The only shower of my eight English hotels that had a bathmat was the one at Dante Arms in Middleham. Congratulations, Dante. Also Dante had a shower which could easily regulate the temperature unlike most of my previous hotels.||The room rate was good: I was in room five with a rack rate of only £75 (ca $100).||My room also had a hot water bottle covered with cloth, a nice comfort for wintertime nights. Lastly, Dante Arms offered Half of a full breakfast, which is good because I usually could not complete a whole full English breakfast. |||| Dante's bar was good for beer and hamburgers.|| One unexpected benefit of the Dante was its proximity to the stalls for race horses which clopped each morning in front of the hotel.
