On a recent quest for the perfect fish and chips, I found myself at a quaint pub in Cove that surpassed all expectations. The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the fish, enveloped in a secret recipe batter that lent it an extraordinary crispiness and depth of flavor rarely found in traditional pub fare. It was so perfectly seasoned and cooked that additional condiments like salt and ketchup were rendered unnecessary, although they could enhance the flavors for those who prefer it.
The chips, while following a more classic preparation, were flawlessly executed—crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, acting as the ideal complement to the fish. The atmosphere of the pub contributed significantly to the dining experience. It was not just the friendly and welcoming vibe that made it special, but also the picturesque views of the ferries that could be enjoyed from the dining area, adding a unique backdrop to the meal.
Priced at £14.95, which included the fish and chips along with a full-fat Coca-Cola, the meal represented fair value, especially when considering the notable quality and the culinary experience it provided. While the price has seen a slight increase from its former £8.95, it remains a testament to the pub's commitment to quality, even in the face of inevitable inflation.
This gem in Cove has firmly established itself as a must-visit for both locals and visitors alike, offering a memorable take on the classic British dish that stands out for its freshness, flavor, and overall dining experience. It's a reminder that sometimes, the best culinary discoveries are found where you least expect them.
We visited last week and have to say it was brilliant. We had the fish and chips and honestly it was well worth it. Light crispy batter on fresh Haddock, chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce. Stayed for the bingo and had so much fun. Locals made us feel welcome and we will be going back. Well worth a visit.
Spot on place . Perfect pints and lovely wine. Food is so fresh. I had Fish and Chips but asked if I could have loaded chips instead and it wasn't any trouble for them to do that for me.Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Maybe a little bit greasy as I think the large Fish could've be drained for an extra 30 seconds or so. But still ate the lot and wasn't put off. Will defo return next time I'm in the area. Lovely views and Sunsets nearer by as well ????????????????????????????
I was there at a quiet time, which was lovely. I've also been there on many busy days. This pub is a gem. Lovely views of the Clyde. Delicious food and friendly staff. Thank you.
What a fantastic place ! Fish and chips scrumptious! The people so friendly! The band !! To sum up …we had a crack !!
First visit to this great wee pub, staff were welcoming and friendly, the bar snack we had was magic and will definitely return, outdoor seating gives a fantastic view of the water.
Kilcreggan is a peaceful village and deserves a visit ????
Meet the locals in a typical pub with a good selection of drinks and pub food including a few vegan and vegetarian dishes like two different burgers.
Tuesday is Bingo night which is real fun.
Excellent beer (Fyne Ales Jarl was on, my first cask beer in months of lockdown), food and service. Plenty of outdoor seating too with zipped gazebos to keep some of the wind off.
