Back in Pai after 1 year and was quick to head for The Chippy after eating there last winter. Fish was cooked to perfection, proper British home chip shop chips and the tartare sauce on point.
If you’re a Brit and want a bit of home comfort in Pai this is the place to come.
Lots of other options available inc vegan and veggie ???????? right off the bars and scooter parking outside.
Came here excited because of the good reviews and left feeling quite disappointed and a bit sick in my stomach.
First up, they aren’t changing the oil often enough thats for sure. Everything had that bitter aftertaste and greasy residue that leaves you feeling heavy and not good.
The batter on the fish was dark and burned yet somehow greasy and not crispy. Basically the worst possible combination - a good batter should be light, crunchy and not overly oily.
The fish itself was not tasty either they don’t tell you what fish it is but from the flavor it tasted like a river fish which im sure helps keep the prices down (for them) but its not my cup of tea at all and it’s a bit sad they aren’t up front with what fish you are getting.
The only redeeming factor is the chips were hand cut and looked great! but despite having to wait almost 30 minutes they were served up lukewarm - not hot, not crispy. Despite the nasty fryer oil they still tasted okay, but nothing to write home about.
The malt vinegar they give you looks like it has been through multiple generations of owners and although i wanted to put some on my chips but it looked so old and out of date I didn’t.
I am not sure how they get such great reviews maybe you have to be a British person who has no tastebuds and just loves oily greasy burned batter to enjoy it - As an Aussie who is spoiled with great fish and chips back home I certainly did not.

Amazing fish and chips with mala seasoning and tartare sauce. Really good quality food to help get rid of a little homesickness.
They serve really well-fried chips and fish.
You can bite crispy texture of surface then taste juicy and tender fish meat.
Chips are also amazing.
Order right and this place is elite. The plain chips are fried well and taste how great chips should but wld recommend to avoid the seasoning as it tasted a bit odd imo.

Chicken is decent too, comes in strips.
Delicious. Small fried chicken with small chips and gravy for 180B. Serving sizes are generous. Chips are excellent. Chicken has a thick, crispy crust.
Best fish and chips I’ve had outside England - Cajun chips were stunning and can’t recommend enough for the price
