Best KPortal Reviews

This is a first rate art gallery and cafe. We were made to feel very welcome and the service was excellent. We had coffee and a slice of millionaire cake. Absolutely delicious. Looking forward to visiting again soon. Would recommend unreservedly. Thank you.
I totally enjoyed my visit to The Chapel in Barnby, and I loved the ceramics and artwork. The coffee and cakes were an added bonus! I will certainly return.
Lovely little gallery & cafe! Delicious home made cakes. They mainly do drinks and cakes. We had a roast beef roll with horse radish. Then a Rocky Road and Millionaire Shortbread. All clean and the staff are friendly. I was offered a 'doggy bag' to take home my cake ???? Would definitely go again!
Great place, our first visit but won't be our last, greeted by a lovely chap, good food and quality tea all delivered with a smile in a nice clean environment ????
Ex Employee, Leaving my review on here as The Chapel has no presence on job sites.
Long story short... Working for The Chapel can be summed up in one word: Frustrating...
I adored the job, I loved the people I was serving, I was fiercely passionate for the role and I was good at it. With zero negative feedback from guests(And plenty of praise) beyond a couple little things that were bound to pop up as it was a new business and we were still finding the best ways of doing things. I was told they wanted a long term employee, someone to grow and develop with the company and help it flourish. Which suited me perfectly. I was made redundant just over a month into the role...
Where to begin. The owner, worked abroad and only saw the day to day from feedback and pictures... He was also someone to make constant changes and act on impulse. Almost daily I'd come in to work to be told of new items on the menu, changes he wanted making etc... except he had never seen the space in action or had any experience to my knowledge of the hospitality industry. So all the changes made were average at best and dreadful at worst. Not accounting for the size of the working area at all making service slower, less efficient, causing far more waste and providing little to no benefits financially or even to the customer. Suggestions were always brushed aside and the role went from "We need someone to run the coffee lounge" to handling the owners unpredictable nature and It became my fault when the poorly made decisions didn't work...
He was also a very unpleasant person: *Questions about the contract/holiday/wage(The regular questions you ask when starting a new job) always seemed to fall on annoyed ears, making questions that could be answered in one message take literal days to figure out.
*Consistent messaging about work outside of my working hours led me to block his social media outside of working hours because it was that unrelenting,
*Constant watching over the CCTV system meaning anything he deemed not good enough I knew about instantly over text. This Included, Being unable to seat a group when we were full, not being able to convince those who just came in to see the art to have something to drink or eat(They didn't want to, they just wanted to look at the art) etc... on a daily basis.
Too top it off. I was told about my termination midway through a shift. Having to face customers after being told I was made redundant is something I wouldn't wish on anyone.
I was fired due to the business being financially unviable in it's current state at the time, Which is fair but even after I offered to reduce my wage and hours to match what was later the hours put in place I was still made redundant. After nothing but positive feedback, gaining them a large percentage of their trade through running there social medias and being told by them a month previous they were looking for a long term employee I was still made redundant.
Fearing the day or two previous something wasn't right I spent one evening making a list of every little detail that could be changed to cut waste, reduce cost, reduce spending and increase profits while making the customers experience better(Most of these ideas I had already mentioned but like previous mentioned, simply were ignored). This wasn't listened to which is fair, I was just an employee but an employee that knew the industry extremely well and adored the local coffee scene so I had a pretty good idea of what needed to change. So it was clear I loved the role and the business.
I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. Too much stress and a very unsupportive employer.
Returned a month or so later to pick some things up I accidentally left, ordered a hot chocolate which was steaming hot and burnt my tongue...
Popped in for coffee, which was v nice limited food menu but good selection of coffees/ drinks. Lovely staff v clean and gallery interesting.
No dogs allowed,no seats outside ????...so outside seating would of been nice, as there is a space at the front for a couple of small benches, would of been 5* then.
The chapel has been done out beautifully. The work if arts on the walls are stunning. Lovely to look at while enjoying a milk shake and rocky road. Well worth a visit
Attentive staff. Fab cheese scone. Nice art work (if you like that sort of thing haha)
