What a suburb pub. We were staying at nearby Grinton Lodge YHA and visited the pub every day of our trip. The landlord and his team were very friendly and made us feel welcome. We dined there twice. Great, home cooked food. I highly recommend this pub.
After a wonderful little stroll from Reeth recently, my wife and I came across The Bridge Inn at Grinton and decided to have a Light Lunch and a Real Ale for me, soft drink(the wife). Food was lovely and drinks lovely also, served by a friendly, polite gentleman so on our next Swaledale adventure we will be back.
We've been visiting the Bridge for several years for lunch during hikes, and always rated it highly. Sad to say the quality of the lunchtime food appears to have slipped somewhat. On our first visit last week we had fish (supposedly cod) fingers in a roll that were tasteless and grey. I left most of mine, but my husband ate his, which regretted later when feeling unwell. With the benefit of the doubt, we made a second visit later in the week, this time had bacon&brie paninis, which were cold and served with soggy chips. Disappointing, from what used to be a go-to favourite.
Stopped by mid afternoon during the ‘Lite Bites’ period for exactly that and a drink. We started off having to change our order 3x because the kitchen was out of ingredients for each dish we ordered off the specified menu. Not so much a problem as we were happy for the drinks. Finally we settled for a meat feast ‘homemade’ pizza and jacket potato with tuna mayonnaise…
Unfortunately the jacket potato was freezing cold and not cooked inside. (Obviously not freshly prepared). The handfuls of butter hidden within melted more sat on the side of the plate at room temperature in the 30mins we sat there than it ever did inside what was meant to be cooked potato; side salad was okay though.
The pizza was anything but homemade. It was a store bought dough and came with no base sauce, no tomato, bbq, nothing! Instead it did have a mountain of red leicester cheese, enough to worry anybodies arteries. I got the impression that the over compensation of cheese was perhaps an attempted cover up for the fact that the kitchen perhaps also didn’t have pizza sauce to hand (despite several being on the specified menu).
We cherry picked bits off the plates as we were peckish but the amount of food left was an obvious sign of dissatisfaction. However we were never asked if everything was okay.
The bartender was polite enough and the drinks were nice, but the food was honestly some of the worst I have experienced in a long long time.
Overall it was very disappointing as the pub is located in a lovely little village with some wonderful walks along the river nearby. I would perhaps only go in for a drink and find food in one of the several other places further down the road.
A final note, the walls in mens toilets were covered in black mould. I left the place feeling anxious that the food we did pick at may come back to cause us trouble. Only time will tell…
You couldn't wish for a more welcoming hosts. The breakfasts are something else and really set you up for the day. Great selection of beers and food. We rarely go anywhere without Boris Johnston (our Daschund) so a perfect place for any doggie lovers....
Had a lovely family meal on Tuesday, evening would definitely recommend, excellent service by friendly staff
A very mixed experience. The pub is situated under 1 mile from Reeth, on a B-road junction Kirby Stephen to Richmond so there is some traffic noise but there was a totally unacceptable amount of bar noise on the Friday night. Although the pub website advises they close at 11pm, Our room 5 was above the bar and despite using earplugs we were kept awake until 2am with noise from the bar. The Saturday noise ceased at 12 though. The rooms are standard but clean and the bed comfortable. There is a good size car park and a decent choice of ales, wines and spirits and there is a good breakfast variety of cereals and fruit with yoghurt. Also tasty fried breakfast but the toast was too hard and burnt. A decent choice of food at dinner, however although the steak and ale pie tasted nice, there were a couple of stomach upsets amongst our party overnight.||My group enjoyed a good 3 mile circular walk which can be downloaded for free which routes along the river Swale, over a suspension bridge and into Reeth, where we stopped for refreshments, of which there are plenty in a variety of establishments. The pub is nicely situated for touring the Yorkshire Dales
We stayed a for a couple of nights on our Coast to Coast walk. friendly landlord and staff, all really helpful. Rooms were comfortable, all above the cosy welcoming pub. Lovely peaceful spot opposite the church and nearby river. They were able to make excellent packed lunches for our next day of walking. All the breakfasts and evening meals we had were very tasty and offered a great selection. Definitely recommend as a great stop over spot, and I would visit again if I'm ever in the area.
