A hidden gem! A really warm and friendly atmosphere created by the chef and the manager. Made us feel welcome from the moment we walked through the door. They made special effort with my little boy and as we left, they even gave him a present from under the tree! Will definitely be coming back as the food was just as good as the service!
The Black Horse Inn is a popular traditional village pub. There were quite a few people in having meals when I visited. There is a separate lounge/ dining room and a nice cosy dog friendly bar with a real fire. There is a good choice of beers, lagers, and cider, including two hand-pulled cask conditioned real ales when I called in. There is outside seating at the side of the pub.
I’ve been to the black horse I few times now, food always beautiful and big portions, also not long waiting times. Really nice atmosphere and staff are lovely and very attentive. In a beautiful little village too. Highly recommend visiting.
This was a lovely pub in a quiet little village, which seemed very popular. The staff were very nice and friendly and there was plenty of seating outdoors and some indoors. This pub is dog friendly, indoors and outdoors. It was very clean, and the food was of descent portions. There is even a dog hydration station outside.
The only reason I gave a lower mark was that my wife's steak was a little chewy, which in all fairness could have been the steak and I wanted a medium steak and it was a bit well done. Overall, though this is a lovely pub and would recommend
Brilliant stunning local family pub first time we have tried the food
Only 1 thing we didn't know was as its a Friday its a limited menu to fish scampi pie or sausage
The staff were excellent ????
Meg behind the bar very good and fast and prompt
Sophie who cleared our dishes and brought food was very friendly and efficient
We opted for the steak pie was beautifully cooked and the chips for everyone was all the same 110% spot on
Been today for lunch with 7 other ladies. It was absolutely freezing cold, we didn't get to take our costs off at all in 2 hours. The young girl serving was lovely but had too much to do. She eventually came to light the fire but too little too late. Waited for our food for too long, it was tepid when it came so was cold before it was eaten therefore a lot was left on all plates. You could cut the gravy with.a knife it was that thick. One lady asked for garden peas and got mushy, no offer of changing them even tho she gave the mushy peas back. Paying for a small pot of peas additional to your meal is a strange one and at £1 per small pot a bit steep I think. On a plus - the meat in the pies was cooked lovely and the fish was white.
Hate leaving bad reviews but cold atmosphere, tepid food makes a happy person pretty miserable.
Visited the Black Horse for the first time today for Sunday lunch. We had a gorgeous beef dinner, all home-made. Yorkshire puddings, beef and gravy all beautiful!
Staff are amazing, managed to book us in on New Year’s Eve and save us a dinner even thought they where super booked. Desserts were lovely too. I had sticky toffee pudding with custard and my husband had chocolate fudge cake with ice cream.
The pub itself is so welcoming and cosy, fires lit fairy lights.
We noticed a few people had ordered baguettes, hot and cold and also the lasagne looked amazing!! So we will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu! Overall 10/10 from us.
Good food, good value, tentative service. We had the house burger with salad and home made chips
