We didn't know the area but wanted something to eat. We googled Pubs near Atherstone and the Black Horse came up. When, we drove up I nearly drove on, as from the outside it didn't look too good. Boy am I glad we didn't. We were greeted in the car park by the Landlord and Landlady who were very friendly and informative, making us feel at home straight away.
This place was amazing, a small restaurant laid up like a 5 star one would be. Then a cosy les formal Garden Room.
The menu had a really good choice for a town centre pub. We both chose the Frank Parker's Sirloin steak, which we requested Blue. When the meals came they were beautifully presented and cooked to perfection and excellent quality. As were the accompanying vegetables
For dessert my husband had Eton Mess and I had the Chefs Special of Salted Caramel Cheesecake, both of which were to die for.
We are looking forward to eating here again and feel that it is well worth the nearly 80 miles round trip.
We were staying in Atherstone, but our accommodation did not serve food.
Wondering along the High Street, The Black Horse was recommended to us for an evening meal.
We entered, and were then shown to the restaurant area of the pub, which was tidy, neat and well presented.
The Food, however, was AMAZING..... All of their meat is sourced from a local butcher. I had a Chicken Kebab and my wife had one of the best steaks she has ever had. We had no room for dessert, but an adjoining table seemed very impressed.
Also very good value.....
As we left, we noticed that they also did breakfasts. That meant that the next morning, we were queuing up to get our fill of bacon, sausage, eggs etc. Again all locally sourced and served in the breakfast area of the pub.
We would highly recommend this place as a place to eat.
Food was amazing. And so was the service. Will be going back. The scotch egg was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. A must try. Trust me you will not be disappointed going here for food.
Well done to the new owners
This pub definitely styles itself as a gastropub and going as holiday visitors with our two children, it would have been helpful to know that they have very little provision for children and the prices are pretty steep.
We chose from the Bar Menu because the food on the a la carte menu looked very fancy and expensive and we were out with kids not on a date.
For what it was, the food felt quite expensive. The pulled pork nachos were tasty enough though, and the chicken burger, using 2 deep fried chicken breasts on a brioche bun, was massive. No veg options with that though, just a huge portion of anaemic looking factory-made chips billed as "french fries".
The children's option was sausage and chips. Full stop. My daughter enjoyed her 2 sausages though from the spongy texture and classic shape, they certainly were nothing fancier than something cheap from a supermarket.
From the online pics and reviews, the proper gastropub options look good. And they do have a super outdoor area tucked away at the back. If we lived closer, I'd probably try them again for a date night, but I'd definitely not bring my children again!
Great customer service friendly staff fantastic food definitely recommend
