We booked this hotel after reading good reviews 10 months in advance.
We was informed that refurbishment would be completed by the time we had booked.
Unfortunately due to being let down by several building contractors.
We had a very warm and friendly welcome and they were most apologetic.
There was scaffolding covering the front of the hotel and the whole outside area was a building site.
We was attending our Son's wedding at a nearby venue and the hotel was full of all the guests.
We weren't even allowed to use the bar and communal areas the night before and had to make arrangements to dine at another venue ( although we did just book B&B) their reviews on food were good but not available sadly.
If we had been made aware of the delay sooner we could have made other alternative arrangements but two weeks notice on Easter Bank Holiday weekend was not enough.
We would have liked the opportunity to do this but sadly wasn't given it.
Saying all this we do feel that it would definitely be worth a return visit on another occasion when work is complete.
We were given a slight reduction on payment day.
And the comfort and customer service is definitely good.
This review is based on the fact of the building site we landed in and the lack of any facilities after 7.00 pm.
We booked last year for five rooms for us and 8 rooms for the brides side for two nights. When we got there it was a building site outside and a mess inside with holes in the ceiling marked furniture and unpainted walls.
We were confined to our rooms in the evening with no bar or restaurant. So we had to go elsewhere-on the Friday and at the wedding venue on the Saturday. If we could have found another hotel we would have but were only told a couple of weeks before our visit and there were too many of us.
On a positive side the manager and her staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good. She explained the problems they had faced with contractors. Plus our rooms were clean and warm.
We got a reduction on the room price from £130 to £110 per nights.
It would have been nice if they had set a room aside so we could get together.
They hope to be ready in May but there is a lot to do.
Food was amazing along with all the staff. Once all the refurb works are completed this will be a fantastic venue for events, weddings, or just trips away with family & friends. I highly recommend this establishment now, let alone before all the full refurbishment is complete. The team could not do enough for us.

Do not be put off by the front at the moment this place is fabulous! |We were here for Sunday lunch even though it’s only partly open. This doesn’t matter because it’s all about the food and the service, nobody anywhere near here can touch the food these people serve daily .|The Sunday lunch is to die for, the food is of a high standard and always delicious, you will want to keep coming back I promise you . |They still have a lot to do building- wise, but it’s not their fault, believe me they have had an unbelievably unlucky time in 2023 but amazingly they soldiered on like the hard working troupers they are! Delighted they’re open no matter what and can’t wait to go back for New Year’s Eve buffet .
This was our first Sunday Lunch at the Angel since they started serving whilst significant refurbishments are still taking place. We can't wait to see the place when it's completed.|As a "foodie", I can honestly say this was the best Sunday lunch that we have ever had in a restaurant and can't praise both the chefs and staff enough. |If you want a very high quality Sunday lunch without any pretence, then this is for you.|Simply first class.
O my god what amazing food. Great value for money. Dave, Maggie and the team made us feel very welcome|Sunday menu such a great choice.|Are in the middle of refurbishment but you would never know once inside.
Maggie, Katie and the team were fantastic during the planning of our wedding and the day itself was everything we wanted and more. Every detail, every query was dealt with professionalism and in a friendly manner that put us at ease on our special day. The chef, Jack, was happily chatting with us the day before the wedding during setup and our guests are still talking about his incredible food almost two weeks later. We can't wait to return to The Angel to try more from the menu.
We also loved seeing the girls behind the bar having a dance and a bit of fun during the reception, the atmosphere was perfect.
Thank you all very much, a day we will never forget!
Came here for a wake the food was perfect all home made. The service was so friendly and at the end the manager couldn't of been more helpful. I'm not from this area but it left such a lovely impression of everyone.
