Friendly and sufficient. My rooms carpet smelled a bit. However my room had a great view, the food was good, bed was fine and the Elvis impersonator downstairs was a hoot. Stairs are hard to climb with a big bag. Request 3rd floor room as the pub gets rowdy... However the pub shuts down at like 11pm.
After an early trip by train for a drink in Whitehaven and having returned to St Bees we opted for one last drink before walk home. The Albert was the closest to station. Great querky little bar area. The landlady friendly and nice atmosphere. Will be back!
Stayed 1 night at the start of the C2C walk. The room was wonderful, clean, big and comfy...shame about the noisy pub downstairs, but noise did stop by 11pm, and tbh I was so tired from travelling I slept like a baby anyway. Lovely landlady made sure I had all i needed for my ventures and even offered someone to transfer my bag incase my transfer was unreliable! Brilliant customer service, thank you x
I stayed one night at this hotel on my first stop on Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk. This hotel is right around the corner from the train station, which was really convenient. However, the hotel itself is not as updated as other accommodations which are also closeby to the train station.||||I was traveling alone and booked for a single person. I was given a room with a queen bed and a single bed in large room with an ensuite. That was nice, except I was told to only use the single bed and not the queen bed as it was being rented out the next day and they didn't want to re-make that bed.||||The breakfast was lovely - a real English country breakfast. Little did I know that this was going to be the norm for the entire walk! But on my first day, I really loved it.
Convenient location near train and a wonderful, jolly landlady. The room was EXTREMELY modest: 2 squishy beds, a tiny sink, nothing on the walls, no bedside lamp. Very clean and breakfast was nice. The stairs are very steep and narrow, and the 3rd floor room has no ensuite bathroom. The shower in the "shared" bathroom did not work.
Always a joy. Great welcome from the staff and the best pint in the village. Guest ales most weeks and never disappointed. Well worth a visit, whether you are C2C, golfing or just visiting the area.|There are a number of hostelries in the village, but the Albert is by far and away the best.
When we first walked in I did think we would have the one drink and leave to be honest.||||Glad we didn’t though as the people there were very nice and welcoming and we stayed for about 90 minutes having a great chat with them.||||They can give you some great knowledge and stories about the area.
Popped in for a couple of drinks early evening. Friendly staff and chatty customers. Social distancing and sanatising all in place. Beer ok but nothing special - keg only.enjoyed talking to some interesting customers.
