Swiss cottage has been around since the 80's and little appears to have changed. Frozen in time with a "For Sale" sign outside and looking tired, it's not all about appearance! Nevertheless it's still open and it's busy on a Sunday lunch time.
No it's not trendy, it's not full of hip young people, it is full of people from the 80's and earlier who know what's what and where they are going to get value for money and a decent Sunday lunch! These are repeat customers who have been coming for years. They must know something? ????
I've added a photo of the menu. We opted for 3 courses for £17.50. and extra £2 for Lamb ????
Haven't had lamb for ages so that's what I chose and was more than happy with a very good portion of it! Gravy, Yorkshire pudding, vegetables, boiled and roast potatoes.
The staff are friendly and the customers are too.
Go retro and don't break the bank!
Been a long time since we visited this cosy place, not sure why but glad we did again! The Swiss Cottage has a unique feel to it which is both inviting and comforting. The bar is suitably stocked for us with draught and bottled beers and spirits and the separate dining area caters for about 30 covers.
We had the Sunday lunch which offers 1, 2 or 3 courses for more than reasonable prices. We opted for the tempura battered salmon starters and garni, fresh bread roll...lovely.
For the main meal my wife, Ruth, chose the lamb while I went for the pork, with crackling of course, served with separate gravy on request, roast and mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and five different vegetables. The meat was tender, good portions and we had no complaints whatsoever!
Our drinks consisted of a preliminary Great Newsome Real ale, double gin and tonic and the meal was was washed down with an excellent Chilean Carmenere! It was also pleasing to gaze out of the windows and view the dog walkers and folk enjoying the nearby sea air.
A lovely experience and one that we will certainly relish very much sooner than before. All for just under £61, what's not to love? Fully recommend this Hornsea gem!
Lovely Sunday dinner
Steak night on a Wednesday
Quuz night 930 Wednesday, come and test your knowledge
Gorgeous , really nice sunday lunch ! Even if sat in rain.! Homemade Yorkshire puds, plenty veg and meat . Gravy very nice . Had take away puds, cake custard. So nice . Will be back !!
Can't praise it enough. Really good meal. My husband had lamb and I had pork, both meals were really good. We both had Bailey and Hazel nut roulade, he had cream and I was rather cheeky and asked if I could have Baileys poured over mine. That's exactly what I got. Quite a small place, staff lovely and polite. The whole thing was less then £20 for both of us.
Great home cooked food in a friendly atmosphere. I love this place.
Had a wonderful Sunday lunch, the food was excellent, the service was excellent too. Would definitely recommend
went here for a wake. we had an open bar and a buffet. the food was lovely, being a chef myself i was very impressed with the buffet spread - not a bad word to say in regards of the food!
the only downfall is i was rather disappointed when i went to the bar to get a drink and was told that by the server ‘i’m done now, i’m just waiting for you all to leave’. no last orders was called. i found this comment rather rude if i’m honest.
other than that everything was lovely. just a shame to receive that comment when i went to order a drink.
