I just had a lovely meal from the Superstar Takeaway in Castle Douglas. Truthfully, I only came here because my regular was closed. However, I’ll be returning more often! I ordered the chicken fried rice, with a side of curry sauce. Id read some negative reviews regarding the curry sauce but wanted to try it for myself. It was excellent! Very spicy, but tasty, and one of the best curry’s I’ve had to be honest. With the meal I also got a handful of prawn crackers. Brilliant! The portion size was HUGE though. Enough to feed at least two people and I’m a guy with a huge appetite. Thanks again though!
Visited Superstar last night for the first time and received a very warm greeting. The menu is quite extensive and the premises clean, tidy and comfortable. My wife ordered a Spring Roll (s) which turned out to be amazing. They were huge, clearly freshly made and packed full. They tasted amazing. Our Peking Chicken & Kung Po Chicken were both excellent. Portions were very generous and pricing was very reasonable. We really enjoyed our meal and will definitely visit again.
Stopped by on the way to the ferry. After reading some of the reviews on here had planned to go somewhere else but as everywhere else was closed, we settled for the Superstar.
Prompt, friendly service. Good portions. Portuguese curry was pretty tasty (Lots of onions!) but wasn't the standard yellow sauce you might be expecting from a chinese. Food was a bit oily for the wife's liking but overall not too bad. Some of the reviewers on here need to wind their necks in... worst food you've ever eaten? Really? This is an above average bog standard chinese.
P.S... we took the food up to Threave and ate it on the lawns by the avenue. Was a delightful tranquil spot for a picnic.
Shockingly bad food, equally wining the prize for the worst Chinese takeaway I have ever had, with The Great Wall. Both in Castle Douglas and both beige, bland and quite frankly boiled offerings, not a fresh vegetable in sight. Do they know what a wok is? Need a massive schooling in the art of Chinese cookery and wok not to do. An abomination to the eyes and mouth. I am so ashamed to be human and that they are allowed to do this to food and animals died for this. People who leave good reviews for either of these restaurants have clearly not experienced what good Chinese cookery is and should go and find it. The prawn crackers were the best part and we usually throw them away.
Supersize portions. Best special fried rice I have ever had - the (homemade?) sauce/gravy on it is simply awesome. Been here several times and always have the same thing and am never disappointed. Will definitely go again.
Avoid the curry!! Tea was a disaster!! We tend to stick to curry if we go to a different Chinese as can you really go that wrong with curry, apparently so!! Ordered two chicken fried rice with curry, ribs, garlic ribs and chips with curry.. the curry was awful. We ended up sharing 1 portion of ribs between the two of us and the rest went to waste!!
Just had a Chinese today with my dad and granny and oh was it good! Best Chinese I've ever had and also great portion sizes! Would definitely recommend it to anyone and will 100% go again!!!!
Fried rice was almost burnt and the Portugese curry is ok if you like onions. There's far too much onion for my liking though.
