My stay at the bunkhouse was amazing. Top quality food, everything was very clean and neat. Dianne is so welcoming, could not have had a better experience.
My partner and I stayed here on our walk along Hadrian’s Wall. ||It’s located not far from Birdoswald Fort which was a much needed rest point on day 2 of our walk. ||After taking much longer to traverse the 19 miles that day than we expected, we ended up arriving at the Farm late. However the owner Denise was very understanding and it was easy enough to get ourselves in. ||Denise gave us a helpful tour and even provided us with some lovely homemade food that we re-heated easily enough in the kitchen. It was exactly the hot homemade meal we needed after a long day’s walk. Unfortunately there wasn’t anywhere nearby to eat, so it was extremely helpful and welcomed. ||The room itself was comfortable, private and just what we needed. ||Everything was clean and tidy. Continental breakfast was provided in the morning with fresh milk from the farm (which was also lovely).||Overall it was a great place to stay for the night and the friendliness of the owner was extremely welcome and appreciated.||Thanks so much!
Wasn't sure what to expect of a bunkhouse booking. We arrived on a wet afternoon after walking all day. The facilities were clean and generous (tea/coffee/range of cereals and other breakfast foods available, milk provided), and a range of frozen home-cooked meals, dairy products, and drinks (including wine, beer) were available at a reasonable price. The farm itself and the elderly couple who run it are really remarkable, and the bunkhouse is not just an afterthought being milked for the extra cash, but a genuinely pleasant place to stay and the hosts are really great people.
Booked the bunk house for a one night stay for my family (10 people and 1 dog) while walking Hadrian's Wall. They were very accommodating, and we received a lovely, gluten free dinner after a long day's walking. The kids really enjoyed the games. Beds were comfortable enough, 2 rooms of 5 each, although there were more beds. It is also quite close to Birdoswald and the path, so very convenient for the walk.
Love this place. Quiet. Fantastic bread, milk and eggs. We had the places to ourselves. Clean and welcoming. Highly recommend for your walk.
Place in heaven, super nice.ownwr, really comfortable.
If you like raw milk then I cant recommend this place highly enough. The milk is absolutely delicious. Everything in their quirky little cafe is organic. Lovely varieties of cheese available and all made on site.
Staff are very warm and friendly, even the cute dog that greets you in the parking area on arrival.
This farm is a pure delight, it’s off the beaten track but well worth the travel to anyone that wants quality.
I actually have an order of 8 pints of Ayrshire milk to pick up this morning, and I cant wait to get my hands on it.
5 stars all day long! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Slack House Farm is an organic farm only half a mile from Hadrian's Wall at Birdoswald, and it makes an excellent overnight stop off for people walking the wall. The kitchen area has a fridge, microwave and kettle, with tea, coffee and milk provided, but the star attraction is the home-cooked evening meal! There is no choice, so contact them in advance if you are vegetarian or have dietary needs, but the large pot of home-made chicken casserole that the owner brought over was delicious, as was the fruit crumble that followed. The farm makes its own cheese and there is a café onsite, but this was closed by the time we arrived. The bunkroom upstairs was clean and comfortable and the shower was good. Breakfasts and packed lunches can also be provided.
