Chips were very golden- not the crispy kind of golden. soggy and very greasy. Lacked salt and vinegar. Onion rings were really nice though! Especially as they were homemade. we dipped them into their homemade tartare sauce which was super tasty.
We tried their gravy and curry sauce. They were flavourless. I added a little bit of salt once home and it did elevate it a bit.
Great fish n chips in Whitby. Reasonably priced compared to many of the chip shops in town. Friendly service, haddock and scampi cooked to order. Nothing was greasy, good crunch on the batter and a good portion of chips.
It is cash only so come prepared, the closest cash point is in town.
Definitely 1 of the best chippies in North Yorkshire, the locals regularly fill this place 10 mins before closing for a very good reason! ????
I had cod and chips and it was very tasty and a huge portion. Nice crispy batter and a thick pice of fish. Please note before you go that they don't take cards.
Awful meal tonight 9/5/22. Chips were burned but yet hard in places. I should have asked for fresh chips when they were being served, tbh that batch should have been thrown away. The Haddock was overcooked and dry too. We only ate half and threw the rest. Such a shame because the first time we visited it was the best. A real disappointment
Great fish and chips freshly cooked haddock and no we are not locals. Highly recommend however if you want to spend a lot more money at the magpie then off you pop.

The Best ! Came for the fireworks, they were great but this was better. Thankyou . Everything about it was spot on. Flavour,, batter texture, chips , all exquisite excellence ???? and no greasy after taste
