Very exceptional service and support. We perched a car from him several months ago which we are very pleased with, when we got it the previous owner had just had it serviced so Richard said if it was OK with us he would service the car when we were ready. He was true to his word. A very honest and trustworthy man, I would definitely buy from him again.
I bought a white VW Golf GTi from Richard Barnes Cars on the 29th of November and have had various issues with it which were dealt with.
After reading one of the reviews already about this golf I was sceptical but after reading the dealers response I was confident this was a maintenance issue and that it had been dealt with, after viewing the car I could see the codes appeared weeks prior and I was happy it had been dealt with.
We were left to inspect the car at will and weren't pressured in anyway, I got told I couldn't test drive the car fully due to covid-19 restrictions but when started it got up to temp fine, its a beautiful car with high spec so I decided to purchase it. I drove it home and the next day took it out for a proper drive to ensure the car worked properly to find the temperature was dropping and the thermostat needed replacing.
The next day I called Richard to which he said they'll order me a new part and to drop it down to them at the end of the week and they'll have their mechanic take a look at it.
After the thermostat had been replaced I picked it up and drove less than 50 miles before the bottom hose came loose leaking all of the coolant and causing the car to overheat. After being towed home I called the day after to inform them of the issue and they were very apologetic.
Two days later they had picked the car up with a flat bed and had it taken to a garage to be repaired again whilst it was being repaired they had noticed the oil cooler was damaged either by their mechanic or by a previous owner, either way they ordered a new one and replaced that for me also. 4 days later they delivered the car back to my address and it hasn't missed a beat since.
Although having some issues with the car they were dealt with as well as replacing additional parts and the guys were very friendly and apologetic throughout. Thanks to Richard and Troy for the help getting back on the road. Will update if needed but satisfied with the service.
I would highly recommend Richard Barnes Cars, I found purchasing my vehicle nice and smooth, I found Richard to have a wealth of knowledge and very professional. I would defiantly purchase a car off Richard again.
My partner purchased a BMW 3 series estate back at the end of September 2022. The first 4 weeks of having the vehicle was okay, but then the problems started. The car spent 3 weeks in a garage undergoing multiple repairs to the tune of £1600. The car came with a 3 month warranty that obviously didn’t cover any of the issues wrong with the car. After chasing Mr Barnes for weeks to get response he finally answered and said he would be happy to help with this matter. We both expressed after spending 5k on purchasing the vehicle 2k deep in repair and recovery bills that we had enough. Going into January 23 still waiting for a response from Mr Barnes we find ourself in exactly the same situation with the car. Broken down with exactly the same problems as the first time. We travelled 90miles+ to a ‘reputable’ garage to purchase a family car for us and our 3 children to be ignored by the owner. We are still trying to contact Mr Barnes with yet more problems and more issues that are also probably not covered by the pointless warranty he provides with cars he sells. 7k out of pocket for a car to be again parked up outside with an endless cheque book of repairs. I would not recommend Richard Barnes cars to anyone! Seems so very helpful and very welcoming until the purchase is complete and then blocks your number and pretends you don’t exist. Not professional and very disappointing given how ‘good’ the service is supposed to be.
Back in November I purchased a very nice 2008 Subaru Forester Xten. This was the first time I’d bought a car remotely. Normally I like to go and give the car a good once over to make sure that there’s are no hidden nasties, but the team at Richard Barnes cars had described the car very accurately and honestly which made the whole experience incredibly easy. The few minor marks that were on the car were as Richard had explained. They were very communicative, keeping me up to date with everything that was going on, also the car arrived on the agreed date and time. What else could you ask for. I’m posting this review 6 weeks into ownership and I’m still really happy with the car. would buy from Richard Barnes again.
