Great pub lunch while walking part of Offa's Dyke Path and the hills around - chilli con carne, rice and chips and a pint of Hooky Best Bitter. The landlord is very hospitable, chatty and knowledgeable and is therefore a perfect host. The pub is a traditional rural hostelry and is in part 500 years old. Thoroughly recommended! They welcome walkers with muddy boots without hesitation.
Warm friendly welcome from Andy on arrival with several regulars already at the bar taking a drink. Our double room was clean & comfortable & great value for money with a terrific breakfast for 2 included in our £80 per night charge. My wife & I also had our evening meal in the bar with the regulars who were very welcoming. Food, drink, accomadation & hospitality were all above expectations. Thanks Andy for nice stay. Regards Julian & Angela from Derby.
The wife and me were in need of a nice pint and some food on a rainy July lunchtime. We followed the signs from the canal to the Powis Arms.|Andy welcomed us in, and we soon had that welcome drink in our hand.|The menu was pretty impressive, but we went for food from the specials board.|Liver and onions, and steak pie, lovely.|Portions were enormous, but welcome.|Our only problem was the miles we had to go. Altogether a great place to stop.
Called in here with family whilst walking offas dyke path. It was Father’s Day lunch time and the place was empty which seemed strange for a previously busy pub. The new landlord was very unfriendly when taking our order at the bar. We sat outside in the lovely garden and took on some much needed light refreshments on a hot summers day but couldn’t relax as he stared at us from the window all the while. We quickly finished and left as it seemed he did not want us here. I don’t think we will return under the current management which is a shame as we used to stop here multiple times during the summer and always enjoyed our visits
We booked Sunday lunch for 7 having not been here before we didn't know what to expect! When we arrived we ordered our food there was plenty of choice of meat our table had been set up ready for us so we took our drinks to our table and chatted happily while waiting for our food it was a bit of a wait but we weren't disappointed when our meals arrived there was a good amount of meat and a variety of lovely veg, mashed and roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding the meal was hot and very tasty! There was a good selection of puddings again all delicious! The price of the food was reasonable we will definitely be returning!
We stayed at the Powis Arms as part of our Offas Dyke Charity adventure |Nice room & shower, fab choice food - good beers and a smashing breakfast |Very reasonably priced too. Hosted by Andy great job
We were walking the Offas Dyke and saw signs along the towpath for the Pub saying walkers welcome. When we got there we were too early as only opens at midday, however there was a young man in the front garden watering the plants and he asked if we were just after a coffee, we said yes that would be great if no problem. He went inside to check and a very grumpy man came to the side door and asked what we wanted. When requests were for different coffees he was not happy and made it clear. We walked away at this stage as obviously he was having a bad day. We hope the young man gardening did not get a roasting. Definitely not worth a visit.
I like this pub. Down to earth, in good location if your walking canal. A menu that I find hard to choose from as I like a lot of dishes. Landlord knowledgeable on area. OK its nothing fancy inside but functional. Good food portions, probably too much to be fair. My only disappointment is the rice. ????Reheated and sticks together, but otherwise a great curry or chilli. But I keep going back as has extensive menu.????
