We visited here for Sunday lunch but would not come again. The service was very disjointed which made for cold lunch and we were some of the first people in so god help those coming after us. To be fair the waitress was new to the job and tried her best with little help from the rest of the team which seemed a very small front of house and not a lot of leadership because everyone was being ask the same questions by the 3 people who were on duty which wasted time and effort. Brains need to spend some money on the interior and staff training to make the place worthy of another visit in the future.
So we stumbled across this place looking for a lunch stop. Took the dogs and sat outside. My hubby had an ale and I had a gin and tonic. Service was lovely and friendly and I had a few asks like dog bowl extra veg and everything sorted for me no fuss! We had roasts and they were gorgeous! All in all 2 very happy customers and their noisy dogs! ???? two big thumbs up!!!
A Thursday December evening some people in but fairly quiet for such a large venue. This is a Brains establishment. The place looks clean and modern (other than the carpet in the restaurant - needs replacing). A small party was in attendance for their Christmas event so service was a little slow. Staff were very pleasant & the meals were much better than your usual Brains establishment (at a higher price but fair). The duck salad starter was superb.
Me and my friend came here after our time at green man festival. Beautiful inside and out and the food was pretty incredible. Staff was really warm and welcoming. We had a lot of bags including sleeping bags and the manager offered office space for them whilst we ate and drank. Thanks for the experience!
A great place for a fairly good meal and a drink, on the outskirts of this lovely town. It has a beautiful garden to sit out and enjoy the (all too rare) sunshine.
Disappointingly, there is only one disable-friendly parking space, so it's usually pot luck if you need to park close-by.
3 of us arrived for a Friday lunch. On arrival we noticed that the car park looked very quiet. Not a huge choice of food on offer but we all managed to choose something. The food was OK but nothing to shout about. Lots of much better places to eat in Abergavenny.
Restaurant very quiet with a party of 30 due in, got there early to make sure we ordered at the time we had agreed yet meals were all out at different times, steaks over cooked to the point of not edible. My middle daughter waited 30 minutes after the 1st meal was brought for her food. Service was a disaster and for a pub that I have visited many times I can safely say it’s my last. God help the party of 30 as they couldn’t get our table of 7 right!
I was running late and taking my father out for Sunday lunch last minute. So we chose the Plas Derwen as it looks nice from the outside. We went in and they said they had stopped serving as they had a party of 30 in. Then they said they would take our order so we expected to wait a bit. As we walked into the conservatory dining area they carpet was so dirty it was sticky and black. The table was sticky and at this point I nearly left but my father said he was ok to order. We ordered and the food took 40 minutes. The food was average, I just hope the kitchen is cleaner than the rest of the place. I could not recommend and would not go back. My father's chair had stuck to the carpet whilst he had lunch. Shame the place looks nice from the outside.
